They can show the Barbaro special anytime as it isn't a live event. This is the Stanley Cup playoffs.

And unfortunately, not many people care about either.

I reckon the Hockey game will get more viewers than the Barbaro thing.

I was just starting to enjoy hockey, mainly because I didn't have to be bitter about them constantly pre-empting horse racing with regular season NHL games (usually live horse racing stuff which is ridiculous, who schedules two live events back to back like that when you know the first will run over?) I figure our folks are good about bringing live programming in at an hour or whatever is allotted. It's not like horses go from taking under a minute to taking 15 minutes to finish a race. They've got it down to a science and I think they should just let them do it live to tape and air it intact later, even if it's just bumping it back 30 minutes. What particularly gets under my skin is pre-empting for Little League baseball.

I wouldn't be so upset about the Barbaro thing if they just tell me when they'll reair it. I want to get this puppy on DVR and I want to enjoy the beautiful weather outside. What I don't want to do is assume it's gonna reair later, have them push back local news instead, and not know it so I miss it.

PS. Ok what did they just say about a game 5 and the Derby? So help me, if they pre-empt any part of the Derby coverage I'll have to hurt them. They just assume the stuff before post-time is all fluff...it matters to fans. It's official, my newly acquired interest in hockey is now gone. And after what they've been doing to shows like Studio 60 and the jerking around of Friday Night Lights, well, NBC can bite me.

There's no way thay'll pre-empt any of the derby stuff for game 5 in my opinion. . . The triple crown is probably the only time they view airing racing as lucrative. . .

In case anyone missed the announcement, the special will be shown on May 4th in the evening. It can also be purchased on nbcsports dot com and the proceeds go to the Barbaro Fund.

So that's this Friday night. I'm assuming it will run in Primetime which will give it more viewers anyway.

Not really. It will be on CNBC, not NBC on Friday night, 9 and midnight eastern. Less viewers, and no ability to advertise it, since most people I am sure aren't landing on CNBC when scanning channels (IF they even get that channel)!

Most people could care less about hockey.I happen to be one of the ones who like it.There is nothing like playoff hockey. The fact that this game went into 2 overtimes makes it more exciting.Hockey is an aquired taste.Having been a lifelong NY Ranger fan it's nice to see them back in the playoffs.A Stanley cup playoff game would never get interrupted unless of a major news story.I still remember when they cut away from a baseketball playoff game to show the white bronco chase.NBC also knows better because of the infamous Heidi bowl when they signed off from the Jets-Raiders game and the Raiders came back with 2 touchdowns with very little time to play and beat the Jets.

That was a helluva game, wasn't it Mermaid? I don't think I've seen a poorer officiated game in a long time (of course, haven't really had any reason to watch playoff hockey in 10 years). and I know this doesn't really belong here:

Yes Golfer it was a great game. The only thing that would've made it better is if i still had my seats in section 311.

Oh Darn.....I'm sorry I missed it. Yes...Barabaro was a great horse. But like I said the day after the Preakness.....He's a horse. Do you know how many HUMAN BEINGS have died in Iraq since he snapped his leg? MANY! Look, it's sad and he put on a brave fight. So did my cat through his ear infection. Like BArbaro..he's an animal. So...let's just put things in perspective here. Father of two picked off by a roadside bomb or a horse that took a bad step.

ok, if the documentary is something that you think was dumb, don't watch it. i understand the whole soldiers in iraq argument, but at the same time, i can still be sentimental towards a horse that broke down. and when there is anything about horse racing on, i want to watch it. if i want to find out about soldiers in iraq, i can go on the internet, look on one of the 24 hour news channels, or go to work.

It's really very simple. If the ratings for horse racing were higher than hockey, horse racing would be on more than hockey. The network execs don't care which sport is which. It's about the bottom line. Period. Whichever one gets the most people to watch, whichever they can charge advertisers more on, that's what will be on. Simple.

Wow. I dont think anyone here would compare the 2 and say that the brave soldiers that have died at war take a back seat to what happened to Barbaro.
I have had many horses that have broke down in races over the past 35 years, and it is heart-wrenching, and NOT the same thing as a cat with an ear infection. And on the other end of the scale, not the same thing as a father of 2 dying in the war. But that doesnt mean we can't be sentimental about Barbaro, and want to see the documentary. It doesnt mean that we cant appreciate the many good things that have come from his tragedy.
Sad that your heart is that cold...especially using the graphic term of "snapping his leg" in such an offhand manner. And on a horse racing forum, no less. Which IS where we are right now. If the documentary matters so little to you, then why take the time to even log onto the forum and click the link about NBC?

Now that I would watch.

Puckey..Barbaro Doc.I'd skip both for a nice quiet bowl of split pea soup any day.

NabbyDabby won't be happy to hear this...but I doubt she will.

Seriously, this is one of the dumbest arguements ever. Couldn't anyone say the same thing about all sporting events, fpsoxfan? I mean, how dare people attend MLB games. How dare people watch the NBA playoffs, how dare people care about their sport? How dare you have enough energy to type on a computer. Afterall, there are men and women being killed in Iraq right now.

No one ever made the stupid comparison but you. Not only that, your "snapped his leg" comment shows exactly how cold you are. Why exactly did you respond? Shouldn't you be watching the war updates on CNN?
