At least Lava Man runs. Against full (sometimes) competitive fields. Unlike some horses whose connections pick their spot to decide which 5-, 6-, or maybe 7-horse field to grace with their presence.

This has got to be the funniest statement I have heard all week.

Well I guess you are right about that.
Nobody could accuse his connections of picking good spots for him.
It seems a bit strange, however, to compliment them for that.

I've asked before and never really got an answer, but, could this be a bute issue? I don't know. I am not a vet and not anywhere near qualified to say, and I don't know anything about the horse except having watched him race a lot. CA is a race day bute jurisdiction. I don't know the amount however. What about KY? NY is not. Perhaps it's a bute and being away from home/shipping issue.

BTW, I don't fault the connections for taking the shot. They are not trying to strengthen a resume for a stallion, they've made plenty of money and did everything there is to do in CA. Maybe it's the "sportsmen" approach, maybe they wanted to go to Dubai, who knows. It's their horse and they can call whatever shot they want.

Be that as it may, the today's day and age where people talk about horses not racing, being babied, ducking competition, etc. (yes, it's not the same with geldings), I would think people would like to see this kind of horse, management, etc.

In general I would agree with this, but this particular horse has proven repeatedly that - for whatever reason - he can't ship and run well. I don't view sending him to this race as "taking a shot." To me it is just stupid.
Anybody that had followed this horse's career knew that this was an absurd decision. They can certainly do whatever they want with their horse, but I just hate to see a nice horse that could be put in races he would win, put in races where he has no chance.
