![]() Ok,heres my take on this topic.I had many run inns with jockeys, including hitting one with his own whip. But,in this case the jock knows this horse well and has made no mistakes up to this point riding him. So,whats the beef. All of sudden this towel head is going to tell jocks how ride horses. The closest thing his ass has come to sitting on a race horse is when he seats on his 200,000.00 gold plated tolet seat in the morning.I think because they have so much money they think their word is always correct.Try winning a Kentucky Derby instead telling a kid how to ride a winning horse in a big race. When you come back to the USA Mr.Towel head, stop by Wal-Mart and I will put 50 cents in the Merry go round outside the door, and you can show me and others how to ride a horse.

![]() Seeing Round Table's PP's in another thread reminded me of his Derby...could you imagine if Jara pulled a Shoe in the race.

![]() What is wrong with a jockey taking a peek to see if any competition is coming up on him? Isn't that his job? If no one is coming he can wrap up and save the engine for next time. That is smart race riding in my book and exactly what I would want from a rider should I ever be lucky enough to have a horse in that position.
What if he didn't take a peek back and then got nailed on the wire by a big closer? How big of a loser would we all be calling him? They don't pay you a bigger purse for winning the race by a bigger margin, do they??? Like Al Davis says "Just win, baby." ![]() |

First, in Arabic, it's called a keffiyeh. The garment is more germane to the region than just to Arab culture. The British military wore them in WW2 and WW1 in their North African campaigns. Lawrence of Arabia (T. E. Lawrence), anyone? Hell, Moses wore one. And please, can you tell me the names of three horses Jara has won Grade I races on? Take your time. All this love for Jara as a very good rider makes me laugh. He's been at Gulfstream every day of the meet save two, DWC day and the day he rode at El Commandante. Yet, the last time I looked, he's way behind riding stalwarts such as Manny Cruz, Rajiv Maragh and, yes, Elvis Trujillo. These three guys can get you home on the best horse as can Jara. But he's certainly done nothing to make me think he's any better than any of them. At this point, he may well be the luckiest rider in history to have the mount on Invasor. |

![]() Whether Jara is the luckiest rider or not isn't the point. He won the race and the criticism was not only unnecessary, it was classless. I'm sure this idiot would've thought Pat Day was the worst rider in the world because he'd save something and not win by unnecessarily large margins.
Can somebody imagine hearing the owner of a Super Bowl or World Series winning team interviewed after the game and the owner throwing a tantrum? |

Hamdan may be many things, but he's certainly no idiot. I can think of at least three riders worse than Pat Day. |

![]() Good point Sent to Stud, I know he is only 19, but I have seen Jara put in some bad rides on the NY Circuit. Even Rudy Rodriguez can bring in a superior horse. I believe Jara is overrated as a rider at this point of his career. That being said, I found nothing wrong with him looking back. As others have pointed out, had he not done that and someone passed him everyone would be shooting him down for the ride. Also, there are times when the horse themself doesn't see another horse coming and the jock has to show the horse that the race is not over. I have no problem with a jock assessing his competition and certainly no problem with a jock gearing a horse down when there is no need to go all out.

![]() I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading here saying that a jockey should not look back. Every good jockey looks around and looks back. Most of the decisions that a jockey makes in a race are based on how the race is unfolding. The jockey needs to be aware of where the competition is.
With regard to Jara, it was important for him to look back to see if anyone was coming. As long as nobody was coming, he could ride more patiently. If he saw some horse making a big move, he would have needed to move a little sooner. Anyway, I wouldn't have much problem with the Sheik's criticism, if the criticism was legitimate. However, the criticism was not legitimate. Jara rode the horse perfectly. I'm not saying that just because he won. I've seen plenty of horses win that get bad rides, but this was not one of them. The stretch is very long in Dubai. You don't want to ask your horse for everything at the top of the lane if you think the main competition is behind you and you think you have the horse in front of you measured. If Jara would have asked his horse for everything at the top of the lane and then got run down right at the wire by Discreet Cat, that would have been a bad ride. That would have been a premature move. |
