![]() Congrats on the downhill turf scores, but rest assured, all of the jockeys listed will be riding full-time at Belmont through the summer.

![]() Talamo will ride in So Cal instead
AN HRTV MOMENT: HOT APPRENTICE TALAMO TO RIDE FULL TIME IN CALIFORNIA Joseph Talamo, sensational 17-year-old apprentice who has four wins from 15 mounts (27 percent) in only three days of riding at Santa Anita, told HRTV’s Peter Lurie Sunday morning that he would alter plans and ride at Santa Anita and Southern California full-time rather than take an extended tour of New York as initially announced. “We’ll be back in Southern California within 10 days,” confirmed Talamo’s agent, Ron Ebanks, by phone from New York Sunday morning. “I’m taking the red-eye tonight and will pick Joseph up tomorrow and we’ll map out a plan. We have business in New York starting Wednesday and through next weekend, but after that, we’ll be in California.” http://www.santaanita.com/news/sn.php?f=sunapril12007 |

it seems to have hurt his career. That and standing up before the wire and getting caught for show and costing me at least $6k.

![]() A big reason why bug boys come to NY in the winter is the inner track and everything that goes along with it. I haven't watched Talamo enough to really have a strong or definitive opinion on him, but EB knows what he's doing and what he's looking at. Coming to NY, after the inner, and when the big boys are heading back to town could have been a good move. Or maybe not. I am not sure. Having backing from Dutrow and Frankel helps immensely, but I don't think Dutrow and Frankel would be giving this guy 1st call on the barn.
NY has the most indepth jockey colony in the world. Not that CA is second rate, but when you have got a long list of top jocks, by the time they get to your name you could be on the 6th or 7th best horse in a race. You can't make a living, or a name for yourself at Belmont and the Spa riding those kind of horses. As a matter of fact, it makes you look bad. People tend to overlook that every horse you are riding is 20-1. He also loses the bug in July -- heading into the Spa. That ain't easy. Eric |

![]() Talamo is making the right decision by staying in SoCal. He should be in the top 3 at Hollywood. If he isn't chances are he'll be riding the Evangeline/Delta circuit in two or three years.
