The Tampa Derby was a nice race. But I predict that it was so hard on those two that one or both will be out of the Derby. I believe one will be knocked out before the Derby and the other will be done for the year before the summer is over. Neither of these two horses finishes the summer.
Hey KG, given how VERY right you've been before, I'll mark your words on CQ and Notional. With SJ, however, it was easy for even the idiots among us to see the talent from waaaaaay before the Rebel (although mind you, some TRUE idiots continued to insist he couldn't stay until he was in the gate at CD). With CQ, on the other hand, I've watched the LA Derby and I still couldn't get excited about him, 102 Beyer aside...

That said, I'll heed your opinion on these two...

I'm not sure how long you've been reading this forum, but as a public service to you let me just say that KG has been wrong on occaison. I would suggest some restraint before locking in a large derby exacta future wager, if there even is such a thing.

Now don't you fret: my few pennies go nowhere near the racetrack, so I won't be running off to the windows anytime soon, on KG's or anyone else's advice I've merely been lurking on this and previous fora long enough to remember KG being quite a soothsayer back in the day...and defending SJ adamantly back when LOADS of people were still saying that he wouldn't run worth a dime against non-Oaklawn competition or past a mile...Has he been wrong since? No doubt. Still, credit where credit is due, and I'm still waiting for him to correctly pick the next Derby winner again already by February (ok, so he's running a bit late if he's right)

Morning line fave was The Cliff's Edge, but Smarty went in the gate as the favorite.

Yeah, he was on the day, but Smarty definitely wasn't the favorite back in February when KG insisted to forum members that he would win the Derby...shucks, KG, I'm probably embarassing you, right?

Anyway, for anyone who remembers, it was certainly KG's moment of glory and thus my regard for his picks, even if they all can't be as good...

this board wasn't around back then unfortunately and his record of selections has tailed off it would seem from that illustrious moment of glory.

He is more known around here for calling Invasor a fraud, that would not even hit the board in the Breeders Cup. When Invasor returned in the Donn he said that due to the layoff he would finish no better than third.

Oh yeah, he basically guaranteed that Bernardini would break Secretariats track record for 10 panels in the Breeders Cup.

After the Las Virgenes he came on to claim that he was not impressed by Rags To Riches and that she beat nothing. This is when everyone was going gaga over how she won despite being 5-6 wide on both turns. Then when she beats the same horses with a better trip he now says she should go to the Kentucky Derby. One of the quickest reevaluations in history.

I'm sure these are just the highlights, if you do some research you'll come up with many other juicy nuggets. I'm just hitting the high spots.

But I'll give him credit for the Smarty pick, I was not on his bandwagon early on, until the Derby win that is.

Well, maybe his picks have worsened since 2004 on the previous board... All I know is that in 2004, he was on the money early, early...and I wish I had supported the sport that year by betting big time...but since when doesn't watching horseracing also entail support of the sport? If there were more fans watching horseracing, believe me: the Smarty Jones of the world and their connections would be earning huge amounts of dosh on *endorsements* (not just at stud) and Yum! wouldn't be able to afford to sponsor the KD. (And I lie: I do bet -- modestly -- and lose plenty at the track. I mean that I don't wager through any offtrack facility). I personally believe the emphasis on betting (yes, it does support the sport currently) is contributing to its demise. People also bet on March Madness, but they are mad about the teams. Horseracing needs more people who are mad about the sport, period, and for whom the betting is a sideline.

If I fret, its because you don't support the sport, not because of what a poster stated years back.

Horseracing doesn't continue today on those that choose to watch, never putting any money through the windows.

Please tell me that you don't like SLOTS. If so, I'll be ok, I'll cope better. LOL
