![]() Anyone remember the Griswold (It's been a long time....but his name was something like that???) vs. Valiant Pete match races? Anyways Griswold was a world champion quarter horse and Valiant Pete was one of the better California sprinters (again it was such a long time ago that I might be forgetting something). They had a match race at 4 furlongs which I think Valiant Pete won. That's the only case I remember of quarter horse versus thoroughbred.

![]() Actually, I believe some (many?, most?) quarter horses have thoroughbred blood in their breeding. Of course the reverse isn't true due to the strict breeding rules with thoroughbreds (no AI, no crossbreed etc.)

![]() When I was first learning to handicap at Bandera Downs, QH and TB raced each other all the time at 870 and 1000 yards. What was interesting was the DRF at that time would not put those races in the TB past performances. I remember hitting a TB whose past perfromances said he was coming off a 18 month layoff but I knew he had hit th board several times against the QHs.

You visited Bandera Downs????????? So did I. Retama Park is where I witnessed most of these races. And I think the QH were at a disadvantage in the races I kept track of. |
