If you ask for it they will do it...From my experience the eventual impact in terms of performance a'la Saarland in his 3 yr old season is little to know improvement.

you are right that they don't work very often...all the more reason not to perform the procedure on a horse that has had an "off day"...

That just b/c they don't work often, its a convenient excuse and they'll keep trying them. They do work occasionally. But when a horse is gassed like a person, they are going to be gulping air. She bounced or maybe even tied up. It doesn't mean she needs the surgery....Look, my only point is when trainers are looking for some kind of reason for a performance this is an easy out if nothing physically was amiss. That was all.

and yet...if you do a tie-back on a horse with a healthy throat...that was having a bad day...you have done nothing but harm the horse...no one does surgery for fun Rand.
