Because of course, earmarks are a brand-spanking new, never seen before 2007 thing, right? Oh please. The only difference is that now that Republcians aren't in charge in Congress, Bush might actually use his veto power, instead of signing off onto Republican bridges to nowhere and increasing our debt.

heck no. and repubs are guilty as well. the bridge to nowhere in Alaska I believe was Repub sponsored. Neither idea is any good and of course we have to pay for it. I'm just getting old and tired of paying for things I have no use for and don't want.....

That was a good one. Linked a town of 9,000 people to an island with 50 (count 'em 50) inhabitants. Cost? A cool $200,000,000+. A ferry boat might have been cheaper?

Should be a beer/betting earmark for DT outings in some bill. Probably cheaper than the bridge to nowhere. Maybe not.

And we want to rebuild New Orleans. Everyone wants to rebuild in New Orleans... Wonderful, its only 18 feet below sea level in hurricane alley. I really dont think the US mainland should pay to rebuild something that will get the crap knocked out of it again. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I guess when a disaster does occur its a good give away for a bunch of building contractors who walk away from jobs. Then they spend it. Something is not right.

Hate to admit it, but I agree with you pgardn. As much as I love the history of New Orleans, the city is sinking and in less than 100 years will be gone (without 100 ft. levis.) It's sad... so much history there. This is an interesting read if you're bored and feel like reading...

I hate to admit it, too, but I also agree. I think some of the city could be saved, if the gov't would spend the money to restore the wetlands around the area (wetlands act as giant sponges, soaking up excess water in flood time and holding it in drought), but I don't see how it can be as big as it once was.

I'm going to write to my Senators and demand that earmark for DT bettors, STS. Hey, we're as good a cause as a bridge to nowhere, aren't we? Maybe I can get us a beer subsidy, too...

I'm writing to Hillary and Chuck to advise them to save New Orleans. I want them to load it all on trucks and move it to just outside of San Antonio.

BINGO....DING DING DING It's about time to take the 'culture' and put it somewhere on dry land for posterity....cuz in 100 yrs NO wont be there otherwise.
