Virtually any horse is susceptible to colic... age, sex, and breed differences don't seem to matter all that much. The type of colic seen appears to relate to location, due to environmental factors such as sandy soil or climatic stress. We saw a lot of horses get impaction colic down here due to ingesting too much sand as they pull the grass from its roots. One of our horses would get colic routinely twice a year when he got his shots. We had banamine in the fridge available ALWAYS.
I hate colic... we lost too many at our barn from it. Sad...
