![]() A few thoughts about the late pick 5 at Churchill. The sequence is a little tricky.
Race 7. On paper, Scipio looks like the horse to beat based on his races 2 & 3 back. Last out, he was on the rail or in the 2 path for most of the race. Notably, horses in the 1 post in turf routes are 1/31 at Churchill this meet. Horse in the 2 post are also 1/31. It seems like, for parts of this meet, inside was not the place to be on turf. There’s an argument then that Scipio was too close to the rail last out and not running on the best part of the turf. Tomasello annd Discreet Cat exit a race where the figure might be unreliable. It was the only two turn turf route of the day. I’m in the minority here but I actually much prefer Discreet Cat out of that race as he was wide throughout and looked like the winner but lost on the bob. Tomasello was closer to the pace but I thought he got a perfect trip, sitting as the first horse in the 2nd pack and didn’t seem compromised by the pace at all. Discreet Cat is a half to Sweet Melania and Sweet Rebecca and will probably be double or triple the price of Tomasello because of the jockey/trainer combos for each. Discreet Cat will be in every single one of my bets and will hopefully blow up the tote board. The pace here looks decent enough with Charlie’s to Blame the likely leader but getting some pressure from King of Ashes. I don’t think either can hold on for 9 furlongs. Early Adopter was the only one to make up ground on King of Ashes and so I much prefer him coming out of that race. World Beater’s final time last out was incredibly fast. While impacted by the pace, it was still an impressive performance. You can’t ignore this one. And Mesero will be running late and is of course half to Bleecker Street so there is pedigree there. Top picks: 8-6-3-2 Race 8. The pace promises to be honest here. I think Gin Gin figured things out last race and will be betting her. But have to respect Alpine Princess and Where’s My Ring. Where’s My Ring apparently had some shoe issues prior to last race. It wouldn’t be shocking to see her return close to her form from 2 back. Top picks: 7-6-1-2 Race 9. I loved Cameo Performance’s race in the Muniz and was hoping he’d get more pace last out. Idratherbeblessed scratched out and it opened things up for Mercante. I think with Herchee staying in here plus Mercante, Gigante, and Silent Heart, you’ll see an honest pace. Cameo Performance is my best bet of the day. Absolutely love him in this spot if the pace horses stay in. Top picks: 2-5-4-9 Race 10. I’ve gone back and forth on this race because I think Banishing is the best horse here but I do worry when he will hit the wall. His performance last race was absolutely incredible as he spotted the field the lead and was able to nearly run down some really good horses. Like Steve, I’m going to lean on him. Post Time was dominant in what was surely a prep for this race. He wouldn’t shock me. And something tells me Antiquarian will be a player in these types of races going forward. Race 11. I think this race is pretty open. All my bets will include the 3 and the 9 in hopes of landing a bomb here. Updated bet with cameo performance scratched. 2,3,4,6,8 / 6,7 / 5,6,9 / 8 / 3,4,5,8,9 ($75.00) I’ll try to post my individual race wagers later on. Good luck all.
