Default 8/1: Colonial Downs Steeplechase race 1 - 3

Colonial Downs features a regular Maiden Special Weight, a restricted Maiden Special Weight and a handicap for steeplechase runners at the bottom of the rating scale all at 2 ¼ miles around 4 turns over 9 fences. Twinspires offers wagering and video with post time at 11:45am EST. It will be hot with air temperature at 90 degrees and a heat index of 100 degrees with no clouds. When it is this hot, runners can have adverse reactions to heat and not perform according to form, especially runners on the diuretic Lasix.

Race 1 has an interesting mix of classy flat track speed runners, fallers from previous hurdle attempts and nice distance pedigrees. #9 Westerland is the most experienced with 19 jump races, won in a fast time at Radnor but was disqualified for a dexamethasone positive so he gets to try maidens again. #7 Moonshine Time ran well in both races this year and does not use Lasix. #3 L’Avvocato was running well at Radnor when in front, made a sticky jump 4 fences from the wire and apprentice rider Jack Power fell off and sustained a concussion. Trainer Neil Morris has #10 Price Talk with the fastest flat track speed and jockey Bernie Dalton.

Race 1 Selection:
A) 7 (3rd) - 9 (WON $12.60)
B) 10
C) 3 (SCR)

Race 2 is the relatively new hybrid Maiden Special Weight condition for $25K or less claimers on flat or jumps. This is a class drop from straight Maiden Special Weight to the condition Maiden Special Weight. #5 Love Foreverafter the 4YO filly for trainer Neil Morris and jockey Bernie Dalton tries to beat 7 boys, a filly and a mare, gets in light with 141 pounds and is the horse to beat after running well over the same course and distance on 7/11. #7 Carloun had a nice flat run at Laurel 6/14 for trainer Keri Brion, drops from a straight MSW at Radnor, does not use Lasix and has good flat track speed. #8 Little G T has 2 flat wins at Colonial, ran 2nd for this same condition at Middleburg and has good flat track speed. Neil Morris’ other runner #2 Hashtag No Wonder has good flat track speed. #4 Greylover (4th) always hits the board and should be used at the bottom of tris and supers.

Race 2 Selection:
A) 5
B) 7 (WON $16.60)
C) 8

Race 3 has 7 runners in a bottom ratings handicap with trainer Neil Morris sending out 2 favorites with the best flat track speed #5 Auction Kingdom and #1 Evie’s Prince. #5 Auction Kingdom runs well at Colonial and #1 Evie’s Prince has been training well at Middleburg. #7 Southpaw Mike for Kate and Bernie Dalton ran well in his last at Colonial and will benefit from a significant class drop. #4 Bourbon Diversion is the mare against the boys and gets in light at 142 pounds with apprentice jockey Virginia Korrell who has 8 2nd place finishes from 24 rides this year so #4 Bourbon Diversion (3rd) may run at the bottom of tris and supers.

Race 3 Selection
A) 5 (2nd) - 1 (Won $9.40) -7

$1 P3 (A-B-A) $173.80

Good Luck at the races!
