Okay, did anyone else mention Prince? Not only awesome songs in the '80s, but inspired Tipper Gore's idiotic vendetta to censor lyrics. Though that did give us the immortal image of Dee Snyder and John Denver seated next to each other at the hearings.

I remember the infamous MTV performance in the early 90's...what was the name of the song? something about the number of positions in a one night stand?

We need more girl groups (or groups with girls in them) on this list:

"Our Lips Are Sealed" (misheard as "Alex the Seal")
"Manic Monday"
"These Dreams"
"I Want Candy"
"Closer to Fine" (for those of us awash in teenage folk angst in 1989)

You beat me to it! I met them, used to bartend in a lounge they played at in their come-back tour a few years ago.

The girl's group mention makes me think of Josie Cotton, her great "Johnnie Are You Queer", and the GREAT soundtrack to "Valley Girl".. Also featuring the Plimsouls (Million Miles Away); The Psychedelic Furs (Love My Way) abnd more, and ending with Nicolas Cage driving off with Deborah Foreman to...
