Multi-day, multi-leg bets are fraught with problems. Changing weather conditions (sloppy track, drying track, sealed/harrowed track) and unexpectedly speed favoring surfaces are just two problems.
Have always wondered why serious handicappers are willing to bet on parimutuel pools 24+ hours in advance when 50% of the money comes in during the last 5 minutes.
