If his daddy hadn't pulled strings to get his son safely into the Texas National Guard, and Dubya had actually gone overseas, maybe Dubya would have had a different perspective on war.

Mind you, I certainly get why Bush Sr. did it; having seen combat himself, he knew what was at stake and was going to pull every string he could to make sure he didn't risk losing his sons to it. He was a father first. But the flip side is that he ensured his son had no idea of what war actually was.
