First death from diphtheria in Spain in 28 years. His parents bought into the anti-vaccination crap. They have since vaccinated his sister. I know vaccine fears have a long history, but it's times like this that I wish I believed in Hell, because it would comfort me to think there's a barstool waiting for Andrew Wakefield, ex-MD.
Interestingly, ten of the people the little boy came into contact with have tested positive for diphtheria, but have no symptoms, as they have been vaccinated. They can still transmit the infection to non-vaccinated people, however, so they must be confined to their homes until they can no longer transmit the disease.

How absolutely ridiculous. Hell of a price paid for stupidity.
