You are so correct. Plus you have no idea how many tickets there with the combination you have in relation to the pool. When I bet an exacta, I typically wait to last possible moment to make sure the exactas will pays make sense. I will never forget a time at Keeneland when Julie Krone was on a 5/2 shot and Willie Martinez was on a 2-1 shot in a 10 horse field and I looked at the exacta will pays and the Krone/Martinez combo paid $33 and the Martinez/Krone combo paid $20. I was like--HUH!!!!! Krone's horse was bet down from 6-1 so I went ahead and boxed them multiple times--the race came Krone/Martinez. I will never forget that.
