My optimism comes from looking at demographic changes in the US rapidly trending away from the Republican Party permanently, and the still-lingering effects of the Bush nightmare. People are not going to vote that right back into office. Not yet. And every GOP candidate is a clone of Bush financial actions.
The public "threw the bums out" in 2010 by voting in the Tea Party, and that resulted in the most historically do-nothing congress ever, with the lowest approval ratings ever. They do not blame the President for that. They see the reality. I think they'll throw alot of people out, but not blindly as they did in 2010.
