He sounds like a Huntsman guy to me. Obama?

I could consider Huntsman. He's very typical of what Republicans used to be before they became wholly owned by the John Birch Society members of the party.

You know, Mitt Romney has been so disastrous in the last couple of days (what he's said in public), and the GOP doesn't like him any more now than when they chose McCain over him. I wonder if Huntsman will end up the GOP nominee? Huntsman is the only one of them with any chance to beat Obama.

I think in a general election Huntsman buries Obama. He is by far the only electable guy on either side.

Shame Huntsman has to be admired (by me) for simply saying things like climate change is real and man contributes to it, and political dogma as demonstrated by the GOP (Romney, he's talkin' to you!) has divided this country.

I'd vote Obama over Huntsman, in a minute, because Huntsman goes with the proven failed Republican economic policies. Socially, he's what Republicans used to be: quite human and caring.

I read the teaser thread title on the main page and got all excited ready to post the "well...bye" youtube.

it's hard for me to envision a lane for huntsman to the nomination.

the republican party has been invigorated by tea party activists. they had huge success in 2010 and are expecting the same in 2012.

i get the search for a romney alternative by republican's that think he's too moderate. but i don't see anyone looking for the more moderate alternative to mitt.

The GOP is so unhappy with the TeaPublicans, the GOP themselves are redistricting many of them out at the state level (Walsh IL, West FL, for example)

There is no way the GOP can win 2012 IMO. Their nominee is Mr. 1% corporate-owned robot with no personality in the era of Occupy. The guy is an empty vessel of, "I'll say whatever you want me to say if I can be President". He has no soul, no purpose, no core. He literally flip-flops and contradicts within sentences of himself (Saturday night debate)

The party as it used to be is collapsing upon itself. Socially they are so out of step as to be obsolete. Economically they will never escape Bush trashing the country, and the failure of Reaganomics. They traded their souls for 2010, and now the devil has quickly collected. We are witnessing the destruction. Whether the remnants will be able to someday coalesce into something different, to remain a viable major party, remains to be seen. But it's Democrats and Independents now, with the Independents being former Republicans, real progressives, and the usual Ron Paul types. The "Republican Party" pretty much claims the evangelicals only, the southern rural section of the US, and that's only about 25% of the populace, max. The GOP is now the party of anger and hate. They are the party that boos active duty soldiers; and cheers people dying when they don't have insurance, and executions. They are the party of Rush Limbaugh's vitriol and hate, and Fox News. Not something many want to be associated with any longer.

karl rove is a realist. they lost delaware and nevada senate seats that by all rights should have gone republican in 2010.

no one should be surprised to see redistricting used to build a governable majority.

that usually means democrats build the maximum safe districts for democrats in states where they control the process and ditto for republicans.

they'll cut out a few outliers but it's mainly built to protect incumbents.

which is why (i'm talking to you danny) it's a waste of time to concentrate on term limits as a solution.

does it really matter when the chief of staff for a (republican) (democratic) congressman succeeds them due to term limits?

stop letting elected officials draw their own districts and you'll have a lot fewer safe incumbents.

I mean that when the GOP has 2 districts: a choice of a normal republican and Tea Party congressional district, they are redistricting making one Republican district, and eliminating the Tea Party person in the process. The Republicans are orphaning the Tea Baggers from their districts, in favor of non-Tea Party Republicans, where ever they can. It's the easiest way to get rid of them. Most will be one-termers. At least they don't get lifetime healthcare or a pension.

BTW, the courts have thrown out several Republican redistricting maps already.

i have no idea where you get your optimism.

i think the only chance we have is holding onto the white house and that's going to be touch and go if we're extremely lucky on the economy.

people i talk to are pissed off and blame the government.

i'm not saying they're right. i'm just saying it's a tough election when you're playing defense in that environment.

throwing out untenable candidates makes sense. for either side.

it's why we didn't nominate howard dean in 2004.

and the supreme court took the texas case to toss section 5 and approve the republican redistricting plan (+3 republican seats) rather than the the appeals court districts (+3 democratic seats)

i could be wrong about kennedy but it looks 5-4 to me.

My optimism comes from looking at demographic changes in the US rapidly trending away from the Republican Party permanently, and the still-lingering effects of the Bush nightmare. People are not going to vote that right back into office. Not yet. And every GOP candidate is a clone of Bush financial actions.

The public "threw the bums out" in 2010 by voting in the Tea Party, and that resulted in the most historically do-nothing congress ever, with the lowest approval ratings ever. They do not blame the President for that. They see the reality. I think they'll throw alot of people out, but not blindly as they did in 2010.
