Because sometimes in marriage you have to lose the battle to win the war.
Even though she knows he's a douche, he's still her brother and is trying to keep some peace for the children who have already been through a lot. Not to mention that she is very close to her mother (who is very good to my boys) and she really doesn't want to needlessly upset her.

Worst advice ever! You wait Tom this will be happening to you some day. Hopefully you will be kind enough to post it. Beating up your wife's brother(regardless of how big an idiot he is) will cause YOU to be forbidden from your wife.
