Default What's the worst thing....?

...about the state of horse racing today?

1. Illegal drugs/corrupt trainers
2. High takeout
3. Small fields/low payoffs
4. Polytrack
5. Poor video/no high defintion
6. Poor onsite customer service
7. Something else?

For the record, the drug issue is tops on the list for me

inconsistent rulings by the stewards.
high take out
over taxation (anything over 300-1 for a $2 bet is reported)
jockeys that stop riding when they can't win - what about my trifecta
small uncompetitive fields

All the above, but especially the jocks that stop riding. I lose way too many trifectas and supers this way.

A lot of those complaints would go away (somewhat) if there were 10+ horse fields to bet on every race for sure.

Incompetent track owners that are more interested in running a slots parlor and answering to shareholders than they are in producing a good product for the bettors, trainers, and owners.

These slot tracks are bad for racing on so many levels. You have to love the purses and they are the only place a slow horse can make a buck ,but isnt that the issue?

Nobody bets these tracks and nobody every will.

Worst thing?

Too much racing, market saturation...

Which leads to lesser quality (in the breed, the betting, the attendance, the field size, and any feeling of racing being "special," and I'd even argue the more crooks and cheats lesser quality attracts.)

Rush to the breeding shed - no interest/incentive in keeping horses racing. Too many cripples standing at stud.

if you didn't have slots at the tracks, you would have no tracks.

so then you wouldn't have to worry about racing at all.

I am the first guy to love the purses that slots seem to have provided in the short run. They are not the answer and they have added more product, and the product sucks. More bad product that you cant bet are bad for the long term. Case in point:

With 10 seconds before the gates opened at Parx two days ago a horse for 4/5 in a 7 horse field.. The horse went off at 5/2 and the winner who was 5/2paid 5.60. This can't happen in NY. Only at a place were people dont bet can pools be this whacky. Great purses though I will give you that!
