Default Letter to a father lost

Dad,

Grief sucks. Losing my hero, unbearable. Obviously, as time passes by, I knew this day was inevitable. I always told myself I was prepared for it. I'm not. Not even close.

I'm helping Mom the best I can, but how do you console someone that loses the ony partner they have ever had in life? You faithfully took care of each other through 53 years marraige and would do it for another 53 years, if given the opportunity. Selfishly, I want you back. We all do. I take solace in your new found peace and tranqulity. The last few years were difficult for you. I can't begin to even fathom the pain and sufferring you endured. As difficult as it was to watch you slide downhill, it had to be infinitely more painful to live it, especially for a strong and proud man like yourself.

Through ominous clouds of grief, there also shines rays of immense gratitude. The blessing of having a father like you walk with me through life, has been invaluable. You were the kindest, patient, non-judgemental man alive. The love you showered us with will remain a strong part of your legacy for years to come. We all went to bed every night and woke up every morning knowing that you loved us. There was never a doubt. You told us every day. Your shining example of what a husband and father should be will carry me through the remainder of my life. If I am half the father to Amelia that you were to us, I will consider myself a success.

Thanks for being an amazing man. I love you dearly.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Incredibly emotional last few days. Beyond heartbroken for my Mom. They simply loved and adored each other.
