![]() With little or no fanfare, my Derby horse (choke, choke) won his first stake race this weekend...edging AP Warrior by a short neck in the Affirmed at Hol. By Point Given out of a Broad Brush mare (that's why I follow him, love Broad Brush), this guy is now 8/3-3-1, his only off-the-board finish coming in the Derby. I still have hope for him...really wanted to see Broad Brush get a Derby winner though!

But don't get too excited about Point Determined just yet ... he ran the same time as a $16,000 claimer on Saturday's card. Maybe he'll improve ... he'll have to. |

![]() I dont know what to make of this race Somer. I thought PD was a great bet against and I couldnt have been more wrong. I also didnt care for AP Warrior much either, so I was doubly an idiot.
It looked like PD was hanging there a bit at the end but all in all a pretty good effort in a race which lacked significant pace and size. Thing that saved me from betting it is Hollywood Park and its awful prices on the board. I would have taken the plunge on Arson Squad at 9/2 or higher, but that didnt come close to happening, thank god. Cant wait for Santa Anita to start up in the fall. To me California racing is dead until then. Del Mar is even worse than Hollywood in my opinion. |

I also hope to see a Broad Brush get a KD. The best I could do was put my mare, Bourbon Streettune with one of his sons, Best of Luck (High Cliff Farm, nybreds). If you check out this breeding, you'll see that Broad Brush is 3X3 to Turn-To. Secretariat in the dam's dam line, and Danzig (Northern Dancer) in his dam's sire line. And, of course, Ack Ack was broad Brush's sire. This could be a good one. Bourbon Streettune is confirmed "in foal". Now, the wait. Foal due in late Feb. Then three years to Church Hill downs... Seems to me, the only thing fast about horse racing happens on the track. The rest of it takes a lot of time. DTS Last edited by Downthestretch55 : 06-19-2006 at 03:33 PM. |
