Point Determined

With little or no fanfare, my Derby horse (choke, choke) won his first stake race this weekend...edging AP Warrior by a short neck in the Affirmed at Hol. By Point Given out of a Broad Brush mare (that's why I follow him, love Broad Brush), this guy is now 8/3-3-1, his only off-the-board finish coming in the Derby. I still have hope for him...really wanted to see Broad Brush get a Derby winner though!

Broad Brush must be loved ... it's mandatory ... for he carries the faint hope of keeping the Domino line alive. Too bad he's the broodmare sire ... and not the sire ... his last crop comes to the races next year.

But don't get too excited about Point Determined just yet ... he ran the same time as a $16,000 claimer on Saturday's card. Maybe he'll improve ... he'll have to.

I dont know what to make of this race Somer. I thought PD was a great bet against and I couldnt have been more wrong. I also didnt care for AP Warrior much either, so I was doubly an idiot.

It looked like PD was hanging there a bit at the end but all in all a pretty good effort in a race which lacked significant pace and size.

Thing that saved me from betting it is Hollywood Park and its awful prices on the board. I would have taken the plunge on Arson Squad at 9/2 or higher, but that didnt come close to happening, thank god.

Cant wait for Santa Anita to start up in the fall. To me California racing is dead until then. Del Mar is even worse than Hollywood in my opinion.

Somerfrost,
I also hope to see a Broad Brush get a KD.
The best I could do was put my mare, Bourbon Streettune with one of his sons, Best of Luck (High Cliff Farm, nybreds).
If you check out this breeding, you'll see that Broad Brush is 3X3 to Turn-To.
Secretariat in the dam's dam line, and Danzig (Northern Dancer) in his dam's sire line. And, of course, Ack Ack was broad Brush's sire.
This could be a good one.
Bourbon Streettune is confirmed "in foal". Now, the wait. Foal due in late Feb. Then three years to Church Hill downs...
Seems to me, the only thing fast about horse racing happens on the track.
The rest of it takes a lot of time.

Best of luck with the foal. Yes, when Broad Brush raced, he was my favorite. I'll never forget his four year old season when he shipped to California and finished behind Snow Chief and Ferdinand...the "experts" said he was simply too slow for them. Then he went back for the Big Cap and proved them all wrong! The Domino line was so important to American racing that when it almost disappeared it became critical for a stallion to step-up. Ack Ack was good on the track but thank god, he produced Broad Brush! BB has had some good sons but thus far, none have done great in the shed...still, I hope for a champion from the old man and success from the kids!

Now I need to do some resesrch. I don't know much about Snow Chief, but the dam of Best of Luck is Crowned, by Chief's Crown. Is there a connect to Snow Chief?

Don't think so...Snow Chief was modestly bred by Reflected Glory out of Miss Snowflake.

Concerto (sire of Bellamy Road) is also by Chief's Crown.

Gosh, hard to pick a favorite. I think probably Include...he may be the best so far.
Concern...winner of $3,079,350 in 30 starts
Broad Appeal (f)...$4,418,037 in 36 starts in Japan
Farda Amiga (f)...$1,282,302
Include...$1,659,560
Mongoose...lots of promise, $694,531
Nobo True...$4,828,061 in 61 starts in Japan
Pompeii (f)...$717,288, unfortunately died carrying her first foal
Quest Star...$930,215 in 41 starts
Stellar Brush...$626,830...won Ohio and WVa Derbys...could have been a good one.

Thanks for the info.

Include's first foals are 2yos this year and surprisingly he already has a couple of winners. Not what one expects from a horse who was a late-developer himself. Fingers are crossed for Include's success. (I saw him at Airdrie on Saturday, he looked great.)

He's a gorgeous horse, as is Mongoose. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them do well in the breeders shed.
