Default Wise Dan out of BC with injury

Dang it!

"Morton Fink, owner of Wise Dan, the two-time defending Breeders’ Cup Mile (GI) winner and reigning two-time Horse of the Year, informed Breeders’ Cup officials on Monday morning that Wise Dan has developed a non-displaced fracture at the bottom of the cannon bone of the right front fetlock that will prevent him from seeking a third Breeders’ Cup Mile title on November 1 at Santa Anita Park at the 31st Breeders’ Cup World Championships."

He ended on a high note. We were lucky to have him return from the previous layoff.

He's done enough.

That's disappointing and should open it up for others like the Euro's that might be coming over. Too bad. Hope this will not end his career . . . he is amazing to watch and a tough customer too.

I agree Coach....it seemed a little iffy last year for Fink to campaign his champ this year.....Hope the connections make a good decision. Maybe like Lava Man

Tough news to swallow, esp after his last race.

Get Well, Wise Dan!

Boo. I hope, of course, he comes back, but if he can't and retires, Kentucky Horse Park did just lose another two time Horse of the Year... I imagine they'd gladly find a spot for him.

Happy that they found it, but I sure was looking forward to a three-peat. Can't really see him coming back after this.

And yes, the Hall of Champions would be a most appropriate place for him some day.

Glad they found it when they did

The connections have always done right by this horse and I don't
think anything will change. If "Dan" says he wants to race next
season I'm sure they will listen

From TVG Facebook page

"Two time Horse of The Year Wise Dan will miss the Breeders' Cup due to ankle injury. His owner, Mr. Fink said: “We won't decide if he will return to training until we see if he heals perfectly because he has nothing left to prove,”

so i'm looking up w. dans record and i thought " wow! ...what a great horse this is. seems like he should be up there with the all time greats like cigar, secretariat, etc....

he's 23 out of 31...winning g-1, g-2 races......really doesn't get the attention he deserves from the main stream media.

then i look up citation and i see this....

Belmont Park 6/12/1948 6 Belmont Stakes 1
Garden State 5/29/1948 6 Jersey Stakes 1
Pimlico 5/15/1948 6 Preakness Stakes 1
Churchill Downs 5/1/1948 7 Kentucky Derby 1

he runs in a race for fun in between the preakness and belmont.

unheard of.....now thats a tough animal!

Unheard of nowdays but quite common before. Last horse that I can remember doing this was Gulch in 1987. He ran in and won the Met Mile between the Preakness and Belmont.

He has truly done enough.. Wouldn't want to see it end tragically.

You are right. I didnt even for a second consider anyone would take my comment so literally as to only apply to Wise Dan. I may be an ******* but I am an animal loving ******* but not to the point of those on the thread coach created.

He'd probably go back to Mr. Fink's farm right? With Successful Dan? Maybe they could be prevailed upon to let him come to the KY Horse Park occasionally like Mine That Bird does. He's not there all the time. I'd like him there year round, but nothing wrong with an owner wanting their beloved horse at home.
