Default Belmont run-off demolishes Secretariat statue

City On Line, who got loose and ran off before the 5th race at Belmont today, made his way through the tunnel and collided with the famed Secretariat statue in the paddock. The Jerkens trainee appears to have been killed by the impact which reportedly toppled the bronze portion while shattering the marble base.

That sucks. RIP City On Line

I wish horses would figure out how to not run straight into things.

That's terrible hardly seems to cover it. Poor horse. What an awful thing for the folks around the paddock to have to see.

Poor thing must have been terrified. I approach every day at the track with so much concern anymore. You just never know what can happen. RIP City On Line

Terrible, bizarre, and tragic ...

A really awful event, and hearbreakiing public disaster ...

I was at Belmont when a horse reared in the saddling enclosure and fell dead with a fractured skull--horrible enough, but not like this ...

I feel for anyone involved with the horse, and all that saw this nightmare ...
