I find it interesting that nothing is mentioned whether the wrong horse was tested or not.

'Balsamo told them that she had seen the name of the horse to be tested on a card and they pulled blood on the wrong horse. The vet and her assistant testified that they don’t have names of horses to be tested, only numbers and stall locations.'

if they don't have a name, how could she have seen a name? if it was the correct barn and stall #, sounds like the trainer was trying to cloud an issue.

Doesn't it have to be more detailed than that? Wouldn't it be the lip tatoo if it was anything?

i have no idea. the trainers on here would have to say whether horses are always kept in their assigned stall. i know when they have articles about derby horses going on to the preakness and belmont, they mention what stall they're in.

They really are wasting time and resources trying to catch Balsamo cheating? What difference would it make?

First of all when a trainer signs the back of their stall application they are agreeing to allowing any state testing, searches etc. Second it's mandatory that all horses that are entered report the stall number. It is also mandatory to have a large red sign that state "horse is entered today" outside any horses are running. We've, along with most trainers, have had the same testing and have not inncurred any problems.

Yeah but the comparison is like saying nordstroms is the same as a swap meet.

I can't figure out how to post the picture but here is a picture of what the sign looks like. It's pretty hard to not see it

All those rules are good and seem easy enough to follow. But in a sport where people will allegedly use cobra venom to get ahead, you would think that the procedure to test horses would be a little more in depth than trusting that all the right horses are in all the right stalls.

According to the article the horse was NOT scheduled to race that day. That being the case, the horse wouldn't have had any tag on his stall. They never did answer the question as to whether Balsamo was right and the wrong horse was sampled.

In light of the fact that a horse was recently treated with Lasix by accident and other such incidents I'd like to know more about the situation before passing judgement on Balsamo.

i'm inclined to believe that the accusation of it being the wrong horse was found to be incorrect. otherwise i'd imagine they wouldn't have fined the trainer, if she'd actually been correct.

I'm more inclined to believe that NYRA doesn't like trainers telling their dimwits how to do their jobs and set an example.
