You are kidding right? Look, his horse has no chance to win the Classic. However, rather than ducking horses, he nearly ran the horse into the ground trying to make the derby. If I remember correctly, he ran in the Fountain of Youth, the Florida Derby,. the Blue Grass, and then the Derby Trial and just missed on graded earnings. He then came back in the Preakness and thankfully passed the Belmont.
As badly managed as he was up to this point, Pleasant Prince has been very well handled since then. There are lots of rich Derbys out there where an average horse can earn serious money. It would be crazy not to go after the low hanging fruit. Other than the classic winners, Pleasant Prince has probably earned more than any other three year old this year while having far less talent. Seems like a good plan to me.
Is the Classic too deep. Certainly. Can he win? No. But, could he clunk up for 4th or 5th and pick up another decent check? Very possible.
