Well the first thing that I try to stay away from is from boxing horses in a trifecta or super. No way should you give equal weight to more than 2 horses. Now I dont mind boxing in an exacta. In fact, I would suggest boxing in an exacta. If I am betting a tri and I find a horse to put on top and the horse is greater than 9-1 I will put that horse on top with all and all (especially if it is a large field). But also keep in mind that you better have win money on the horse. If you have a 10 horse field and you key a horse on top with all and all you are looking at a $72 ticket for $1. $72 to win on a 9-1 horse will yield a profit of $648.00. If your 9-1 is followed by fav and fav then you wont be making much if any at all. This race from Arlington is a perfect example

7 Stormin Gen. Tommy Eduardo E. Perez 20.80 11.00 5.80
10 Outer Bounds Earlie Fires 5.60 3.40
6 Amon Rene R. Douglas 2.40

Wager Type Winning Numbers Payoff

$1 Pick 3 4-6-7 (3 correct) 169.30
$1 Pick 4 3/4-4-6-7 (4 correct) 232.30
$2 Exacta 7-10 129.80
$2 Superfecta 7-10-6-4 2,515.80
$2 Trifecta 7-10-6 436.00

For the $1 tri you got back $218. Now this was an 11 horse field. So to go single with all with all then your ticket is $90. $90 to win on the 7 horse would have yielded a profit of $846.00. The reason why I picked this race is because I had the $1 tri and $90 to win. So be careful betting exotics.
