James Drought's great book, "the Secret" influenced my thinking leading me to the conclusion that wars are waged by the rich and powerful using the rest of us as pawns....still when I was drafted, I took that faithful step forward and became a pawn. I saw friends die but I was lucky and came back in one piece, and much more mature. People have mistaken me for anti-military, nothing could be further from the truth...I am pro-military, just anti rich and powerful...as Dylan sang...the "Masters of War" . Bottom line, I have the greatest respect for any young person who chooses service, even over a full ride to LSU...perhaps you should rethink this one Dell!
Somer, you remind me so much of a friend of mine who died almost 13 years ago. He had been a drill sergeant in Vietnam, and when I knew him, while he still had the drill sergeant temper (lord, that man could shout when he was angry), he was by then Wiccan, very to the left, and incredibly kind to his friends. He also was of the opinion that war was a rich man's game, played with poor men as the pawns. You guys would probably have gotten along famously.

He was working in the WTC on 9/11 and suffered a heart attack that day that he never really recovered from, he died less than a year later. I still often think of him.
