It seems like horses dont do well after a couple of things

1) After the triple crown run horses dont seem to perform well.
2) After a horse going to Dubai and then comes back to the states

But there are some exceptions. Can anyone name a horse who won the Derby that went on to have a good 4 or 5 year old season? (this is not intended to bring up Funny Cide again).

Silver Charm

They all bounce worse than Phil and Monty walking the 18th fairway.

Silver Charm and Real Quiet were both G1 winners at 4...haven't been that many even try to run as a 4yo

Of course one could argue that he won only one other Grade I after his three year old season. But he has multiple Gade II wins.

I'm pretty sure all of these won G1's as 4 yo's:
Funny Cide
Real Quiet
Alysheba (huge 4 yo year... retired after BCC win)
Spectacular Bid (Huger 4 yo year 10 for 10, I believe)
Seattle Slew
Foolish Pleasure (I remember he beat Forego in a big NY race)
Riva Ridge

Look at the list... Funny Cide excepted, for the most part, these are some of the best Derby winners of the last 35 years. The kind who's talent can't be denied, even when they aren't at the top of their game.

I do think the trip to Dubai takes it out of them. Silver Charm, Cigar, Roses in May- to name a few- were never the same after that trip

Giacomo!!!!!!!!! He's sitting on a big one! LOL

Hooves, throw in Wilko's fifth in the Met Mile after a very strong 3rd in Dubai.

But lets also look at these from this year who werent as bad

Relaxed Gesture - 2nd Manhattan
Super Frolic - 2nd Californian
Gaff - 2nd Maryland BC Handicap

None others come to mind that ran in Dubai this year

Saturday, quite a few have come back and run ok but there is one big difference, the ones who caem back and ran ok didnt run a step over there. gesture was beaten a football field there. He didnt expend any energy, neither did the others. You haveto break em down by who actually spent energy there and who didnt. The ones who spend energy, they are the ones who run like brass hat.

Didn't Cigar win in his first start back from Dubai? I agree that it is a general rule, but if my memory serves me correctly I think Cigar was the exception to the rule.

Silver Charm was something special.. as was Free House (maybe even more game in the long run)

He won but he wasnt the same, his figures plunged from there on in.

Brass Hat wasnt the only horse who ran bad in the Stephen Foster. Love of Money and Buzzards Bay both ran like gerbils too. I dont think it had everything to do with his trip to Dubai.
