NYRA moves pro-actively to end Lasix-related late SCR's..
From Jerry Bossert's daily notes in the DN:
Starting Jan. 26, NYRA veterinarians will administer Lasix to runners to prevent a rash of late scratches since the detention barn was ended at Saratoga. Since July 23, there have approximately 30 scratches because of horses not receiving their Lasix shot in a timely manner, which is 4 to 4-1/2 hours before post time. Also in Bossert's piece, The Belmont Cafe the 'place to be' for race watching. |
Just another case were NYRA is looking to make the product better for the bettor. Nobody(owners, horsemen, BETTORS) likes to be scratched for something which is avoidable. I am assuming HANA will applaud NYRA for there continued efforts to make racing in NY as approachable as possible!

It will be interesting to see if they can keep doing it at Belmont. Aqu is a small backside and a large number of horses running are stabled in the receiving barns. I have no idea how they will be able to do this at Saratoga without hiring a lot of extra vets.

"It's amazing, but in a month the NYRA put together a better OTB than NYCOTB, which opened its first parlor in 1971."
