Multi-Race Wagers
 

I was explaining the 2002 BC Pick-6 scandal to a friend, and a thought occurred to me about multi-race wager pools. In today's hi-tech world, is it possible to put on multi-race wagers in the way the cheaters did in 2002?

By way of example, I only have to pick my horses in the first leg, and I get to add others as the races unfold. I buy a $100 pick 4 voucher and name my two horses for the first leg. This leaves me 50 comibantions in the next three legs. If one of my two horses wins the first leg, I register my picks for the second leg. and so on. If I lose the first race, the whole $100 is gone. If I fail to register picks for a given race, I forfeit the ticket. If I have money left over after participating in all four legs, I get a refund. Just seems like this would be an interesing way to approach the bet.

What makes me really question this is that I have a couple of friends who don't like multi race wagers, because you can't see the horse flesh before you've put you're money on them.

I've actually thought of the same scenario you talk about..but.......

the fact of not being able to see the horses or the odds before each individual race is what gives these type of bets the most value. If, say a maiden 10:1 shot was bet down to 3-1 you might get 10 - 15 : 1 on your horizontal wager. but if everyone got to see the action, you are sure to get 4-6:1.. and there are many other nuances to it as well i am sure .

Ticket 'exchange' wagers are not new. Twin-Tri, Tri-Super, etc... I don't think they're very popular.

That would completely take away from point of multi-race exotics, which I can't explain properly. But in essence, they are there to enhance value

Not a bad idea, but too cumbersome. To recap/correct what happened in the 2002 BC, they built a ticket 1X1X1X1XallXall, and the guy who was a programmer at Scientific Games realized the antiquated system for pooling P6 bets only sent the LIVE tickets after 4 legs into the central system as to limit the traffic of bets. Therefore, they were able to place the above bet and write over their selections on the first four legs in the master database to the winners, leaving them with a guaranteed ticket. Since they're idiots they singled the first four legs (in which there were some really improbable horses).

And the wagering handlers still haven't corrected this flaw in the system, from what I've read.

It is called a parlay.
And the takeout will kill you compared to the P4.
