this horse was a tik off the track record and was never asked, damn thats is fast! and ran that race off a 6 month layoff!

oracle80 09-29-2006 06:14 PM

The horse that Discreet Cat defeated last time out in the allowance race was beaten today in the same allowance condition at Belmont Park.
I'm not so sure I'd say he would win by ten lengths, these are better than Contessa's horse that he beat last out.

Its like stepping into the ring with TYSON in his heyday!

As usual on the internet there is a substantial chasm between Discreet Cat's actual ability and his perceived ability.

I wonder if it's the anonymity factor.

no,
its the fact that he beat Invasor without being asked at all.
in fact, he has beaten every horse he has ever faced without being asked.

Testimony ( another Darley/Godolphin horse ) finished second in that same race. Have you noticed how he has run in his two starts in America?

And, by the way, Discreet Cat was certainly " asked " in his race in Saratoga.

Really? It sure as hell didn't look like it.

OK and the stopwatch at Saratoga lies! I don't answer questions from stupid people they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experiance.

“He actually surprised me with the move he made,” Gomez said. “He did everything on his own.”

He wasn't in a full out drive by any stretch of the imagination but he was ridden out. Could he have gone faster? Maybe but if so probably not a great deal faster.

Look, he's a supremely talented horse, no doubt about it, but if you didn't see his pps, or the pps of those he beat, you would have a much different idea of this horse from reading the kind of accolades he gathers around here. I have found that letting horses prove themselves on the racetrack is the most telling thing.

Bernardini is the real deal,
but Discreet Cat is an absolute once in a lifetime freak.
how are you going to fault a horse that does not lose?

I think they're both ridiculously fast, two of the best 3-year-olds in a LONG time, and discrediting either one is ludicrous.

He could have run in a number of races, and have chosen not to, and in my opinion are taking the easy road.

yeah,
Godolphin does the aggressive thing in Europe,
and stays somewhat conservative here.
have yet to figure it out yet completely.
whatever they do, they always hide behind the term "do whatever is best for the horse".
whatever the hell that means.
if anyone was really concerned about what was best for the horse, they would just run around in fields somewhere on the Irish countryside.

I would never tell another man what to do with his horse(they can shoot it in the head for all I care), but I just hate ppl hiding behind that damn phrase.

well,
some ppl are always going to hate the fact that Bernardini won the Preakness(which is nothing more than the race where Barbaro was injured to some people).
and also there is the fact that Bernardini has been beaten, although very early on before he knew what he was doing.

bottom line is that neither horse has done anything wrong and both are extremely fast.

2 legitimate superstars.
