Discreet Cat update
From Racing Post.....
Belmont target for Discreet Cat by Jon Lees GODOLPHIN are targeting a Grade 2 event at Belmont Park in early-October for UAE Derby winner Discreet Cat. The son of Forestry, unbeaten in three starts, has been ruled out of Saratoga’s Travers Stakes, mooted as possible target earlier this year, after suffering from a cough at the start of this month. However, the colt could still make his much anticipated return to action in a minor event at Saratoga, where he made a sizzling debut as a two-year-old before being purchased by Godolphin. Then he will be pointed towards the Grade 2 Jerome Handicap, a mile handicap for three-year-olds at Belmont on Sunday October 1. Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said on Saturday: “Discreet Cat was never going to run in the Travers after the coughing bout he had. He is at Saratoga training now but he will go for an allowance race at the end of August/early September and then he will go for the Jerome back at Belmont.” After Discreet Cat’s spectacular victory in the UAE Derby on his second start in Dubai, Godolphin opted for a patient approach, prefering to miss the US Triple Crown entirely in order to give the hugely talented colt, said to be an immature individual, plenty of time with one eye on a late-summer campaign. |
