Danehill Smile Lame After Trial Drama
Please be advised that Golden Slipper aspirant Danehill Smile was pulled up by her rider in a Randwick barrier trial this morning.

Danehill Smile went a short distance after jumping out of the barriers in Heat 11, whereby her jockey elected to pull her up.

Racing NSW Vets inspected the filly soon afterwards and found her to be acutely lame in the off-hind leg. Danehill Smile has since been sent to the Randwick Equine Centre.
Trainer Anthony Cummings has undertaken to inform RNSW Stewards of the results of a full examination of the two-year-old.

Danehill Smile - Stewards Update [06/03/2007]
Racing NSW have this afternoon relayed that Mr Anthony Cummings, trainer of Golden Slipper favourite Danehill Smile, has reported the filly, after being examined at Randwick Equine Centre today, has returned to normal in its action after exhibiting signs of 'tying up' as evidenced by a high muscle enzyme level in a blood count.Mr Cummings said Danehill Smile will continue its current campaign and the filly will be inspected by RNSW Stewards and Senior Official Veterinarian, Dr Craig Suann, on Thursday, 8th March.
Will let you know if i find anything prob will end up in the breeding barn sounds very much like a bowed tendon.

You think Molotov can get him today?

The Hayes stable said it was their best bet on Sky previews.

Apache on to Sydney after Blamey win
Story By Jason Hickson

Saturday, 17 March 2007: Talented galloper Apache Cat brought up a winning hat-trick at Sandown today and will now target the Sydney autumn carnival.

The unusually-marked gelding, prepared by Greg Eurell, has raced below the top rung of races this campaign but has been a soft winner of all three.

After wins in the Memeres Stakes and Carlyon Cup he went into today’s Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) as an odds-on favourite.

After settling just off a very slow early pace, the tempo quickened as Lucky Unicorn overraced and was allowed to slide to join leader Red Dazzler.

That gave Damien Oliver and Apache Cat the perfect drop on his rivals, easing to the outside in the long straight before letting down strongly.

Bon Hoffa, who finished runner-up behind him last start, tried valiantly again but was no match for the favourite, finishing runner-up ahead of the fast finishing Molotov and Spinney.

Red Dazzler and Lucky Unicorn, who shared the lead around the turn, both dropped right out.

“He was a little agitated, a bit fresh after three weeks between runs,” Oliver said.

“He went keenly early but once there was some pace in the race he settled perfectly and then came into the race at the right time.

“It was a good win and I’d be very keen to stay with him.”

Apache Cat was a Group 1 winner of the Australian Guineas a year ago, then went to Sydney and won the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes before failing in the Doncaster Handicap.

Eurell is adamant he’s a far more seasoned horse this time in and doesn’t have to lead, as he did in the Doncaster before knocking up.

“It gives you a bit more confidence he’s not so one dimensional now,” Eurell said.

“He’s on his way to Sydney now and will head up on the 29th before the George Ryder on the 30th, then the Doncaster nine days later.”

In the Doncaster, at Randwick on Monday April 9th, he has 56.5kg.

Damien Oliver put his stamp of approval on new Doncaster Handicap favourite Apache Cat after an effortless win in yesterday's Blamey Stakes at Sandown.
Trainer Greg Eurell was keen for Oliver to commit to the Doncaster ride. A two-length win over Bon Hoffa ($12) in the Group 2 $352,000 Blamey Stakes (1600m) was enough for the champion jockey to take up the offer.
Apache Cat, who has 56.5kg in the $2.5 million Doncaster (1600m), firmed from $7 to $5.50 favouritism with bookmaker Michael Eskander after the win.
With his distinctive baldy face, Apache Cat ($1.45 fav) is a pin-up horse with racegoers.
The Lion Cavern gelding had an army of fans cheering him home yesterday as the one-out anchor for most quadrella punters, who invested $1,582,934 in response to Tabcorp cutting its commission. The "Fat Quaddie" paid $2137 for a $1 unit.
Apache Cat was inclined to over-race early but then settled and had his rivals covered early in the straight when Oliver eased him to the centre of the track.
"He was a little bit fresh, a bit toey. He hadn't raced for three weeks," Oliver said.
Apache Cat gave Oliver his third Blamey Stakes win as he won on Oliver Twist in 2000 and Gold Wells in 2004.
Apache Cat is already a Group 1 winner but seems to have returned to racing a more complete racehorse.
He has transformed from a specialist front-runner into a galloper capable of settling in a field.
"It's good to have another string to his bow," Eurell said.
Apache Cat has now won nine of his 20 starts and $1.4 million in stakes and has been touted by rival trainer David Hayes as an emerging star of Australian racing.
Eurell said Apache Cat would arrive in Sydney on Thursday week to prepare for Saturday week's Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before tackling the Doncaster on April 9.

Maybe he's really going to try to visit Apache?

I love these quotes from the rider:

"He was a little bit fresh, a bit toey. He hadn't raced for three weeks," Oliver said.

“He was a little agitated, a bit fresh after three weeks between runs,” Oliver said.

Yeah, here in the US they really worry about 3 weeks being too long!
