Excerpts, SCMP story on Darren Beadman.
Doctors have found nerve damage in Beadman's brain - diagnosed as diffuse axonal injury - which has seriously affected his balance. The Australian left hospital on Thursday night, only to return yesterday morning for the last of his intravenous serum treatments. *** Plans to operate on his fractured cheekbone and insert a steel plate have been put on hold, as his doctors are unwilling to put him under anaesthetic in his current condition. Due to the nature of the problem, Beadman will be unable to leave Hong Kong during his rehabilitation. http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...ws20120303.asp Serious stuff. I hope he's able to come back and that he feels better. |

Aww I didn't realize Mister Horse (best name evah! ) had slipped down to Class 5. (He was 6th in R1... TA pulled it off and Super Pepper won which is pretty amazing considering this 6 year old has only won three now and all of them have been this season).
Someday Mister Horse will win. 19 starts, he's 5... yeah some day. That was R1. * * * Prior to R2... After being loaded, GLOBAL FAME became fractious, reared and got both fore legs over the front gates and then subsequently over the partition into the adjoining stall. GLOBAL FAME then took some time to be released from the barrier stalls. The Veterinary Officer reported that GLOBAL FAME was not suitable to race and accordingly was withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on this advice. Before being allowed to race again, GLOBAL FAME will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination Poor guy. * * * How do you spell Lai? Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY TOUCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being loaded, HELENE FUN STAR became fractious and reared on a number of occasions. Before being allowed to race again, HELENE FUN STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. LET ME HANDLE IT was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, BANKSTERS BONUS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1500 Metres, JAMESINA commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HELENE FUN STAR. Near the 1400 Metres, BANKSTERS BONUS was steadied away from the heels of HORACE’S EMPIRE. Near the 1000 Metres, KING OF SCOTS was steadied when crowded for room between OLE OLE and CARTHAGE (W M Lai) which shifted in. W M Lai was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Near the 500 Metres and again at the entrance to the Straight, CARTHAGE and JAMESINA (Apprentice K C Ng) bumped as a result of JAMESINA attempting to shift out. Apprentice Ng was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. MILITARY ATTACK had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 200 Metres, JAMESINA was steadied away from the heels of CARTHAGE which shifted in under pressure. W M Lai was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future. For the majority of the race, SAME WORLD travelled wide and without cover. After the race, M Du Plessis (AOMEN) stated that he had been instructed to attempt to find cover on that horse if possible. He said after having to be ridden along, from barrier 11, AOMEN was then left racing in the lead when no other horse went forward. He said AOMEN then was inclined to lay in throughout the race. When questioned, G Mossé stated that he had been instructed, from barrier 13, to ride PACKING TYCOON quietly today as the horse had not been finishing off its races satisfactorily when ridden in a forward position. He said when ridden off the speed today PACKING TYCOON finished off the race strongly. A veterinary inspection of LET ME HANDLE IT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the 1200 Metres, DESTINED FOR GLORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SICHUAN SUCCESS which was being steadied to obtain a position behind LUCKY NINE. Near the 300 Metres, FLYING BLUE, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of SUNNY KING which shifted in. The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by D Whyte, the rider of GLORIOUS DAYS, which finished 2nd, against LUCKY NINE being declared the winner alleging interference near 200 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the official videos, the Stewards found that near the 200 Metres LUCKY NINE shifted out and brushed GLORIOUS DAYS. The Stewards further found that after this both LUCKY NINE and GLORIOUS DAYS shifted out under pressure and over the concluding stages raced tight. Having in mind where the incident took place and the relative margin between the horses over the remaining 200 Metres of the race and at the finish, the Stewards found that whilst there was some contact between LUCKY NINE and GLORIOUS DAYS at the 200 Metres, they could not be satisfied that had it not been for that contact that GLORIOUS DAYS would have finished in front of LUCKY NINE. Accordingly, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in given on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Throughout the race, ABLE ONE travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of AASHIQ after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of AASHIQ, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AASHIQ will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, T Angland reported that on pulling up SICHUAN SUCCESS coughed and was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN SUCCESS after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SICHUAN SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY NINE and GLORIOUS DAYS were sent for sampling. * * * Other less important stuff... Hawthorne entered at HV on Wedneday... President Lincoln (NZ) will keep his name... Stunned to hear that Super Satin was retired. This is him winning the Derby... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2010&raceno=08 ... and looking at that great field I realized that King Dancer is yet another one who never won after coming back from Dubai. So with King Dancer added I wonder who else I've left off. |

This is pretty cool... THE biggest star in Macau racing, Viva Pronto (for anyone who follows yes another Viva meaning you know the owner...) is coming for the HOng Kong Macau Trophy.
I have no idea how the De Silva's Crown Witness will do against him. Looks like a nice field. Another Macau runner who is pretty damned good, Clown Master, will be coming along with a couple of others who I'm sorry to say I don't know. Other news... Finally. Sleep Well who is the former AOB-trained Achill Island and who has now had 45 pretty bad starts in HK (he won 4) is finally retired. Very happy they're doing right by him cause he hasn't seemed interested in racing for years now. Sad stuff. He was a nice horse at one point. Anyway hope he gets to go somewhere nice where he can breathe. Happy retirement. |

Will be in HK middle of nest week, so on site for next weekend. After looking at race 8, it is a strange race, Not one horse has ever gone 2000 meters and at level weights #3 Zaidan, #1 Fay Fay and Sweet Oragne have significant class edge. Bullish Champion has the speed figures to be competitive but is asking a lot to go from 1400 to 2000 meters as first route. going to say Zaidan will get first run and win this with Sweet Orange finishing strong but just missing. Fay Fay with wide draw and Smart Giant finding it out for 3rd and 4th

I was thinking about the Derby and of course realized I forgot to post this. Duh.
Why doesn't Zac have a Derby mount? Why is Yeung on NC? Ed if you're around interesting to see Fallon on MM, isn't it? Good luck to the old guys in this one. No pick.Just happy to see such a nice field. The Derby might be a little lackluster in terms of prior years (hey I'm still thrilled though) but this race looks pretty damned good. REAL SPECIALIST was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PACKING TYCOON blundered at the start. MILITARY ATTACK was slow to begin. SMART GIANT began awkwardly. DOMINANT was crowded for room at the start between REAL SPECIALIST and MASQUERADER which was taken out by ZAIDAN. Near the 1800 Metres, SMART GIANT got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MILITARY ATTACK. When the tempo slackened approaching the 1400 Metres, REAL SPECIALIST was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAY FAY and shifted out away from the heels of that horse. After this, REAL SPECIALIST was allowed to improve to race outside the lead. After the 1000 Metres, ZAIDAN was left racing without cover. Passing the 850 Metres, DOMINANT became unbalanced when checked away from the heels of SWEET ORANGE. DAN EXCEL, which was following, was checked in consequence. After the 500 Metres, DOMINANT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DAN EXCEL. Near the 200 Metres, PACKING TYCOON was shifted out away from the heels of REAL SPECIALIST. MILITARY ATTACK had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 200 Metres. SWEET ORANGE had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 100 Metres. LIBERATOR was not able to obtain clear running until after the 100 Metres and because of this was not able to be tested. Over the concluding stages, ZAIDAN was hampered when taken wider by FAY FAY (D Whyte) which shifted out. D Whyte was advised to exercise care. MILITARY ATTACK, which was racing outside of ZAIDAN, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SAME WORLD. Because of this, MILITARY ATTACK was not able to be properly tested in the run to the finishing line. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that he had been under strict instructions not to be racing wide and without cover. He said for this reason passing the 700 Metres he elected to remain racing on the back of SAME WORLD rather than shifting out at that time when he was aware that DAN EXCEL was improving quickly to his outside. He said had he have shifted to the outside of SAME WORLD at this time, this would have resulted in SWEET ORANGE being left racing without cover and he felt that this would have been contrary to his instructions. He added that in the Straight tight running was available to SWEET ORANGE at various stages, however, in his opinion, the horse was reluctant to proceed between SAME WORLD and DAN EXCEL. He said it was not until after the 100 Metres that SWEET ORANGE was able to obtain comfortable racing room between SAME WORLD and DAN EXCEL. After the race, it was reported that MILITARY ATTACK had sustained a minor wound to the right hind leg and had lost the right hind plate. Also after the race, it was reported that SWEET ORANGE had sustained a cut above the right hock. A veterinary inspection of DOMINANT after the race did not show any significant findings. SWEET ORANGE, FAY FAY and SAME WORLD were sent for sampling. |

Watched the replay. Look like many had chances with 200 M to go. Whyte is amazing. #14 finishing 2nd was complete surprise as he had never run a figure even close to a winning number. Had 3 of 4 but no good.

HK race 3
Not sure what you saw but really no breakdown. Looks like Dr. Win ran up on heels and clipped on front leg. Jock pulled him up. Will race again. Flash Knight bled. Both horses will eventually be able to return to the races.
