Some great 3yo maiden wins up at Ruakaka today. I had to work, so I couldn't go. But I came home and saw these replays.

Newyork Bakerboy (3 c Artie Schiller - Princess Xaar): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAMUnjt2Z94
Sir Lovesalot (3 c Darci Brahma - Sound Lover): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRUSSVGhU10
Artistic (3 f Darci Brahma - Artless): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tjHjzXRAE

A couple of weird names, but they look like very nice horses.

I was really worried about this 3yo crop - apart from Anabandana and Antonio, I thought it was looking seriously weak. So happy I'm wrong! They're all starting to come out now.

Awesome to see the Darci horses starting to do well.

Challenge Stakes odds:

1 Mufhasa 9.00
2 Wall Street 3.50
3 Booming 31.00
4 Fritzy Boy 7.50
5 Atom Cat 41.00
6 Master Power 51.00
7 Jimmy Choux 4.50
8 Lion Tamer 12.00
9 Dancing Jess 31.00
10 St Germaine 21.00
11 Scarlett Lady 6.50
12 Fleur de Lune 14.00
13 Kiwi Lady 31.00

A bit surprised that Wall Street is favourite ahead of Jimmy, and Mufhasa's odds are massive. Pretty much agree with the rest.

He's such a nice horse.

Remember that race where Anabandana just completely ruined his win?

Aaah well this might be easy for him, right?

He's the only proven stakes horse in the field, so he'll definitely be the favourite.

But a couple of horses here had amazing maiden wins last start - especially Little But Fierce and Sir Lovesalot.

But yeah, I think Antonio should win.

I know you're busy with rugby right now but what else is coming up, ed?

What's next for Jimmy and Fritzy et al?

I was reading about this one horse last week with a very cute name (Thumbtacks... awww ) and the comments were surprisingly ummm well they practically belittled the poor guy (even though he won one, the assholes!). Was wondering what you know about him andd if you could dig up a replay some day although I doubt he's exactly a stakes horse so not sure how difficult that would be.

Thanks though!

Jimmy and Fritzy should both be running in the G1 Windsor Park Plate at Hastings next Saturday. Mufhasa will be there too. I think Jimmy might turn the tables on Mufhasa there - the mile will suit him much more.

Thumbtacks seems to be doing well over there in Sydney. I found one replay for him, but I can't link to it directly. So you have to go here: http://horseracing.bigpondsport.com/...5/Default.aspx

Then go 'race archive', 'change date', and go to Sep 3. Then choose Race 1 at Warwick Farm.

It was a great day at Ruakaka yesterday. He's Remarkable resumed with a very impressive win in one of the undercard races, and then Antonio Lombardo won the stakes race by five. Amazing performance. Replays coming soon.

That was awesome and thanks and sorry cause I stupidly thought he had run in NZ but he's local boy right?

Yea for Antonio.

I was pretty surprised Jimmy didn't win that last one but hey... can hardly be disappointed and yeah that will probably be his only loss for the season!

We have a new favourite for the 2000 Guineas in November - BURGUNDY went from 30-1 to 7-1 after he scored an amazing debut win today. He's a half-brother to five-time G1 winner Darci Brahma and looks like a very good colt.

Who is she, ed? I don't remember that name at all.

Lovely field for the Windsor Park Plate and yeah good luck to all the bolded kids as well as to Titch, Showcause, Booming and Six O'Clock News!

Yep, that's right. This is her first try at a stakes race and she's only had a maiden win so far, so it's not surprising you haven't heard of her. But she has the same owner as Katie Lee.
