Why did i think Opie would get another mount for the Mudgway?

How does post 5 work for Wall Street? Seems to be pretty good but of course i don't know what I'm talking about half the time, so...

Yeah I think the 5 should be good for Wall Street. He'll be looking to be just in behind the leaders, maybe one off the rail, and he'll make his move near the turn. Hope he gets a better trip than in the Telegraph at least!

I think Opie might pick up the ride on Illuminates.

Time for my picks.

Keep The Peace
Run Like Al
And a bit of a weird longshot for third...Jacowils.

The track has dried a bit, but I think it will still be too wet for Mufhasa and Wall Street. It's too short for Vosne Romanee.

Bad gates for Vosne Romanee and Illuminates. Mufhasa's probably had the best luck - he's drawn 2, and the one drawn inside him, Keep The Peace, will drop back, so he'll get a nice trip.

The 3yo race on the undercard is always worth watching - last year the 1-2 finishers were The Hombre and Joey Massino, Juice won it in 2008, and Jokers Wild won it in 2006. The field:

1 04301 Faro Rubino 12 69 57.0 Carol Kupa, Foxton
2 3661 Fiddler 7 69 57.0 Tony Gillies, Matamata
3 7X1X Barefoot 11 68 56.5 Robert Hannam Adrian Bull, Hunterville

6 18X Big Boy 8 67 56.0 Jonathan Riddell Mike Breslin, Awapuni
7 20327 Barside 5 58 55.0 Trent Busuttin, Cambridge
8 2 Maradona 9 57 55.0 Opie Bosson Andrew Campbell, Opaki
9 4 Gospel 10 55 54.5 Michael Moroney & Andrew Clarken, Matamata
10 005 Di's Boy 2 52 54.5 Marty Johnson, Woodville
11 Princess Katie (AUS) 1 50 54.5 Kevin Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North
12 9 Princess Talaria 4 50 54.5 G J Hart, Hastings
13 Yin Yang Master (AUS) 13 50 54.5 Mark Du Plessis John Sargent, Matamata

I haven't heard of most of these! But I'm sure I will in the next few months. Gospel was unlucky in his only start, and people are talking about Maradona and El Primero.
How old is Bulginbaah? He's up there right?

I wish I knew more about the runners in the 3YO race and wow it was sad seeing the name Jokers Wild again.

Such an idiot, I didn't realize The Hombre was as young as he is.

No pick of course although i do always root for Mr. Moroney.

Why have i heard of Big Boy? He lost to what really nice runner? I know I've heard the name.

Who is the favorite ed? i thought I had read El Primero at one point...

For the Mudgway I'll say...

Wall Street / Keep the Peace, Illuminates and Pennacchio underneath in whatever order! (and will scream my head off if Mufhasa, Fritzy Boy or The Hombre hit the board although I'm not expecting either will).

Bulginbaah is 10. The old bloke has won 21 races. Great old horse. I don't know how I'd feel if he won - in some ways it would be great, but at the same time, a 10yo winning a G1?!

El Primero is the favourite for that 3yo race, although the stable are really high on the first starter Yin Yang Master. I think Gospel is a huge chance.

Big Boy won on debut and then he wasn't far off the winner when 8th in a very good G2 field. Icepin won the race, just ahead of two of the best male 2yos of last season - Jimmy Choux and Cellarmaster.

No problem!

Tomorrow should be great. It's so exciting when it's the day before the first G1 of the season. So many great races ahead.

And this one is often one of the best races of the year. In the last 10 years, all these great horses have won it - Sunline, Miss Potential, Starcraft, Xcellent and Seachange (twice).

KEEP THE PEACE WINS!

Second to Katie Lee in EVERYTHING last year. It's great to see her get her turn. She did win the Oaks as well of course.

Wall Street second, Fritzy Boy third, Bulginbaah fourth, Pennacchio fifth. I'll post a replay soon.

Earlier, the 3yo race was won by 36-1 longshort Di's Boy. He was 14th, 13th and 5th in his first three starts. Maybe he's just figured out what he's meant to do.

Next weekend (the 11th).

But there are some nice early 3yo stakes races this weekend.

Fillies Stakes:

1 X111X Smoulder 12 78 56.0 Chad Ormsby Graeme & Mark Sanders, Te Awamutu
2 640X1 Elle Tresor 7 74 56.0 Mark Du Plessis Keith & Brendon Hawtin, Te Awamutu
3 6X211 Extra Explosive 2 73 56.0 Andrew Scott, Matamata
4 43012 Faro Rubino 10 70 56.0 Patrick Holmes Carol Kupa, Foxton
5 5104X Miss Marauder 9 68 56.0 Masa Tanaka Matthew Eales, Awapuni
6 31 Tart 'N' Tartan 5 68 56.0 James McDonald (a) Donna, Dean Logan & Chris Gibbs, Ruakaka
7 6X19X L'Amour 14 67 56.0 Kelly Myers Lisa Latta, Awapuni
8 322X2 Rememba Howe 4 59 56.0 Lisa Allpress Evan & J J Rayner, Wanganui
9 3X42 Stardom 8 59 56.0 Andrew Calder Jim Campin, Cambridge
10 63342 Waiana Gold 3 59 56.0 Darryl Bradley Gary Vile, Awapuni
11 2X Reve De Victoire (AUS) 13 58 56.0 Jonathan Riddell Kevin Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North
12 3826 El Menear 1 56 56.0 Craig Grylls Derek Allen, Ruakaka
13 8 Good Gracious 6 50 56.0 Sam Spratt Rachael Frost, Otaki
14 Princess Katie (AUS) 11 50 56.0 Hayden Tinsley Kevin Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North

Smoulder is the best horse here, I think. Elle Tresor, Extra Explosive, Tart 'N' Tartan and Stardom are all good as well. This is a really nice field.

Wanganui Guineas:

1 2322X Cellarmaster 7 88 56.0 James McDonald (a) Kevin Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North
2 1633X Jimmy Choux 2 86 56.0 Jonathan Riddell John Bary, Hastings
3 32012 Shah 12 70 56.0 David Walsh Peter McKenzie, Levin
4 21 Flash Hapi 5 69 56.0 Tasha Collett (a) Kenny & Lisa Rae, Ruakaka
5 0X31 Anotherchancetaken 3 68 56.0 Hayden Tinsley Garry & Steven Barlow, Woodville
6 7X1X Barefoot 4 68 56.0 Robert Hannam Adrian Bull, Hunterville
7 1 Enjoyit 13 68 56.0 Mark Du Plessis Graeme Forbes, Cambridge
8 36616 Fiddler 6 68 56.0 Sam Spratt Tony Gillies, Matamata
9 14 Royal Tap 9 68 56.0 Chris Johnson Kerry King, Isla Bank, Riverton
10 6X3 Above Stratum (AUS) 10 59 56.0 David Walker Warren Bolton, New Plymouth
11 0303 Young Yachtie 8 56 56.0 Lisa Allpress Jeff Bliss, New Plymouth
12 8X477 The Muffin Man 1 57 56.0 Patrick Holmes Paul Marks, Matamata
13 49X12 Fastnet Lady (AUS) 11 70 54.5 Craig Grylls Graeme & Mark Sanders, Te Awamutu

Cellarmaster and Jimmy Choux were great to watch last year. It's 3-2 to Cellarmaster in their head-to-head. But it sounds like it'll be a wet track, and Jimmy handles the wet better.

Enjoyit was also very impressive in his only start, and I think Flash Hapi has a lot of ability as well.

Are you okay, ed?

I have no idea where you are in relation to the earthquake.

Everything okay with you?

I'm fine. I'm up near the top of the North Island, and the earthquake was down in Christchurch, about halfway down the South Island. And luckily my friends that I stay with when I go down there are in England at the moment.

It's so amazing that no one was killed. The destruction is incredible. I go down to Christchurch every year for the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas, and I can hardly recognise photos of roads I've walked along heaps of times.

Soooo close. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To1ZAN4kdmA
Nice effort by Cellarmaster as well.

The fillies race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2kWUdKhdtA

And also our biggest steeplechase, which was won for the THIRD time by Hypnotize. He's only the second horse in history to do that. This was a great race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA0KDfMjU4o

I'm glad you're okay. I live in LA so I know what it's like, seeing places that don't look the same.

Amazing that everyone is alright!

Those races were great and wow Hypnotize! Why do I not know that name? Just so awesome!

Thank you cause am still recovring from last night.

Let's see...

I was so busy changing something at Flemington that i forgot all about Randwick. I pretty much never change my plays but I decided to change Shocking for Speed Gifted. Great move.

(edit - Just to be clear I put the ones I liked over Heart of Dreams. I really didn't think it would be either Shocking or Speed Gifted but had to use one and being an idiot...)

Meanwhile I remembered to check Randwick results later and, since I didn't play him this time, Lion Tamer decided to win and he paid very nicely.

A grand evening all around.

I didn't either. I didn't think he would handle the wet track. But I was very happy to be wrong! Great win.
