HIGH CHAPARRAL, winner of the 2002 Epsom and Irish Derbys, got his stallion career off the mark in France on Sunday when By Chaparral became his first winner, scoring over 41⁄2f at Lyon-Parilly.

By Chaparral was bought by trainer Marc Pimbonnet for €30,000 at Deauville last August, and is a daughter of the winning Ashkalani mare Spring Morning.

High Chapparal's roll of big-race successes included consecutive victories in the Breeders' Cup Turf (including a dead heat with Johar in 2003), along with the Racing Post Trophy at two and the Irish Champion Stakes at four. He now stands at Coolmore for a fee of €20,000.
