BOOK 1, DAY 1

Hip 8, colt by Tapit – Havre de Grace, by Saint Liam. Consigned by Timber Town Farm, agent.

Horse of the Year Havre de Grace sold for a record $10 million at the conclusion of her racing career. She is the dam of winners Heavenly Grace and Graceful Princess, both full siblings to this colt. Tapit, a perennial leading sire, averaged $950,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale, leading that category for the third time.

Hip 33, filly by Uncle Mo – Icon Project, by Empire Maker. Consigned by Dromoland Farm, agent.

Grade 1 winner Icon Project is the dam of Fashion Business, who won the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap in August. The second dam is Grade 1 winner La Gueriere, and this is the immediate family of multiple Grade 2 winner and sire Munnings.

Hip 56, colt by Bernardini – Issues, by Awesome Again. Consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

This colt is a half-brother to leading Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Accelerate, who rolled by 12 1/2 lengths in the Pacific Classic to become the third horse to win the Santa Anita Handicap, Gold Cup, and Pacific Classic in the same year. Stakes-placed Issues also is the dam of Grade 1-placed stakes winner Daddy D T and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Amarish.

Hip 63, filly by American Pharoah – Ivanavinalot, by West Acre. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah is averaging $626,338 with his first-crop of yearlings this season. Among the outstanding mares in his first book was Grade 2 winner Ivanavinalot, dam of two-time Eclipse Award champion Songbird, who sold for $9.5 million as a broodmare prospect last fall.

Hip 76, colt by Tapit – Justwhistledixie, by Dixie Union. Consigned by Clearsky Farms.

Multiple Grade 2 winner Justwhistledixie is the dam of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day and multiple Grade 2 winner Mohaymen. Mohaymen sold for a co-sale-topping $2.2 million here in 2014.

Hip 87, colt by American Pharoah – Khancord Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid. Consigned by Sequel New York, agent for Chester and Mary Broman.

Grade 3 winner Khancord Kid is the dam of the versatile millionaire Bar of Gold, who capped her career by winning the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. The third dam is Grade 1 winner Key Phrase, who produced American Pharoah’s broodmare sire, stakes winner Yankee Gentleman.

Hip 98, filly by Uncle Mo – Kakadrie, by Coronado’s Quest. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent.

This is a half-sister to champion sprinter Kodiak Kowboy, as well as to stakes winner Wilbo and stakes producer Maria’s Quest. It is the immediate family of Grade 1 winners West by West and Little Missouri.

Hip 105, filly by Galileo – Lady Shakespeare, by Theatrical. Consigned by Four Star Sales, agent.

This is the only yearling in the sale by international leading sire Galileo, and Grade 2 winner Lady Shakespeare is already the dam of a winner by the stallion. The mare is a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Shakespeare, as well as a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Perfect Shirl and to stakes winner and producer Fantastic Shirl.

Hip 120, colt by Medaglia d’Oro – Leslie’s Lady, by Tricky Creek. Consigned by Clarkland Farm.

Medaglia d’Oro is in the midst of his strongest commercial season, and was represented by three seven-figure yearlings on a single night at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale. This colt is a half-brother to four-time Eclipse Award champion Beholder, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and U.A.E. Derby winner Mendelssohn, and Grade 1 winner and successful sire Into Mischief. Mendelssohn sold for $3 million to top this sale in 2016.

Hip 135, colt by Tapit – Lotta Kim, by Roar. Consigned by Gainesway, agent.

This is a half-brother to 2009 Horse of the Year and Hall of Fame racemare Rachel Alexandra, as well as to Grade 3-placed Dolphus. Rachel Alexandra is the dam of Grade 1 winner Rachel’s Valentina. Lotta Kim, a stakes winner herself, is half to two other stakes winners.

Hip 141, colt by Tapit – Love the Chase, by Not For Love. Consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock, agent.

This is a half-brother to two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome, a dual classic winner who banked more than $14.7 million. Love the Chase sold for $1.95 million carrying this colt, who is bred on a similar cross to the champion.

Hip 195, colt by Pioneerof the Nile – Mining My Own, by Smart Strike. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent.

This is a half-brother to Kentucky Derby winner and Canadian champion Mine That Bird and to multiple Grade 1 winner Dullahan. He is bred on the same Unbridled-line cross.

Grade 3 winner Miss Macy Sue is the dam of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Liam’s Map, Grade 3 winner Not This Time, and stakes winner Taylor S.

I thought the Gunthers were keeping the Will Take Charge-Stage Magic colt. He's Hip 443 at the sale. I guess he's going through with a high reserve.

Broodmare of the Year Oatsee is the dam of Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford, Grade 1 Alabama Stakes winner Lady Joanne, Grade 2 winner Afleeting Lady, Grade 3 winner Baghdaria, and stakes winner Stephanoatsee.

Hip 298, colt by American Pharoah – Ponche de Leona, by Ponche. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

This is a half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man. Stakes winner Ponche de Leona also has produced stakes winner Southern Girl, Grade 3-placed Marconi, and stakes-placed Mucho Mans Gold. Marconi sold for $2 million at this sale in 2016.

This filly, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cupid, is also half to last year’s sale-topper, sold to Coolmore for $2.7 million. They are out of the Grade 2-placed Beau Genius mare Pretty ’n Smart, whose eight foals to race are all winners, including Grade 3 winners Heart Ashley and Ashley’s Kitty and stakes winner Indianapolis.

Hip 321, colt by War Front – Quarter Moon, by Sadler’s Wells. Consigned by Four Star Sales, agent.

Group 1 winner Quarter Moon was an Irish highweight and second in both the Irish and Epsom Oaks. A full sister to Group 1 winner Yesterday and several other stakes performers, she is the dam of nine winners, including Group 1 winner Diamondsandrubies, Group 1-placed You’ll Be Mine, Group 3 placed Born to Be King, and stakes-placed How High The Moon.

This is a full brother to 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner, a six-time Grade 1 winner with victories including the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Serena’s Cat is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Vocalised, and her second dam is Hall of Fame racemare and blue hen Serena’s Song, dam of Group 1 winner Sophisticat, Grade 2 winners Grand Reward and Harlington, Grade 3 winner Schramsberg, and stakes winner Serene Melody. From the second crop of champion Will Take Charge, this is a half-brother to unbeaten Triple Crown winner Justify, who sold for $500,000 at this sale in 2016. Grade 3-placed Stage Magic is the dam of three winners from as many starters, including Grade 3 winner The Lieutenant.

Hip 486, colt by Curlin – Take Charge Brandi, by Giant’s Causeway. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales.

This is the first foal out of champion Take Charge Brandi, who topped the 2015 Keeneland November breeding stock sale at $6 million. Her second dam is Grade 1 winner Take Charge Lady, dam of champion Will Take Charge and Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy.

Hip 489, Carter Expedition, colt by Pioneerof the Nile – Tapicat, by Tapit. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Grade 3 winner Tapicat sold for $2.2 million carrying this colt, and her first foal, Lebron J, fetched a sale-topping $1.2 million at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic. This is the family of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Cat Thief and Grade 1 winner Pohave.

He wasn't a terrible looking horse, but not sure what the vet report looks like on him. I think they're burned on him being by Will Take Charge and not something like Uncle Mo, Tapit, MDO.

Definitely dealt with unproven Will Take Charge issue. Upcoming from Stage Magic, a Pioneerof the Nile weanling colt; I/F to Quality Road; Going to Curlin in 2019.

I'd like to know if anyone had a look at the MDO x Leslie's Lady. He RNA'd at $60k. Crazy with that pedigree that he couldn't even draw the "dont race him and stand him as a regional stallion" bids?
