Rather than give my C-note to Don Guido, I'm going to key a bet on a filly possibly named for a beauty whom we both remember from oh so long ago - Princess Grace. Some said that she gave up her crown as Queen of Hollywood to "only" be Princess of Monaco.

Race 7: $7 trifecta: 2 / 3,6,9 / 3,5,6,9 [$63]
$4 trifecta: 3,6,9 / 2 / 3,5,6,9 [$36]

Good luck to all and thank you to Real Quiet for scoring.

Grace Kelly was a great beauty for sure. Watched one of her movies not too long ago. Rear Window directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Surprising what you forget about a movie or maybe not so surprising. Could have been 60+ years ago that I first saw it.

It's funny how our perception of a race is so often determined by how we have wagered. If a player had wagered on Diamond Oops to place instead of win, his or her description of that race would have spoken of a fast pace set by Bombard and Gear Jockey, with Gear Jockey getting to the lead at the top of the stretch and running strongly to draw off by about 2 1/2 lengths, while Diamond Oops saved ground, ran in traffic but closed with energy to just nip Bombard for 2nd in a blanket finish that seemed to involve about 5 horses. That horseplayer would have been elated to cash a very generous place ticket [$19.20] on a former graded stakes winner who was soundly beaten for the win but was the best of the rest. Of course, the player who selected Bombard would have an entirely different recollection.

And those who picked Arklow in the Calumet would have seen about a half dozen places where Florent picked the wrong path and was blocked in traffic before surging toward the leader once in the clear, getting beaten despite being much the best horse.

Those turf sprints are pretty tough. They always seem to draw a host of accomplished runners. I might have had the winner and the second place horse, had I gone 8 deep. Obviously, I need to consider some different angles than those that I employ. Kentucky Downs is always a challenge, but that seems to be true just about everywhere for me these days.

Those were very tough and competitive races yesterday. Having a ouija board would have been helpful. Turf races usually have closer finishes and the trips are very important. Having a jockey who is a good tactician doesn't hurt either.

Having said that, I have really enjoyed watching the races at KY Downs. The track is unique in the US and it's fun to watch the horses negociate it. My bankroll, on the other hand, hasn't enjoyed it as much - I know when I've been overmatched.

Who's responsible for selecting this track anyway. We may have the lowest points scores in the history of this forum, unless someone in addition to Ruffian, had a good crystal ball in their lap. Never seen so many long shot winners, place and show horses hit the board.

Oh wait I'm guilty . . . and was totally confused yesterday Sorry folks. And not to mention way to many "close but no cigar" wagers too. And close is only good in horseshoes not horse race betting.
