Default Venue for Sep 11 . . .???

Well I'm thinking where the turf meets the turf, Kentucky Downs. Offering five graded stakes with two one million dollar purse Breeders Cup auto qualifying races. I used to love walking through the grass in my bare feet as a child. But you needed to watch out for the clover or you might get stung by a poor little honey bee.

Comments???

Kentucky Downs seems to have the best racing in the USA this weekend. If you look at the entry list, it reads like a who's who of trainers and jockeys in the Eastern part of the country. No wonder, since they are offering slots-enhanced purses of as much as $135,000 for maiden races.

The track itself is unique; only turf races, undulations in the course and even a place where the horses have to make a right hand turn. It looks like a course through a farmer's field and it just might be.

Here's a link that tells you more about the track and its history as a place where "gentlemen" from Tennessee came to just across the Kentucky border to settle their differences.

Kentucky Downs looks like a good venue even though its all turf racing. Could we eliminate race 11? I hate to end a day with a maiden race (however $135,000 for a MSW is mighty impressive). However if Joly wants to play a Pick 11 I would have no issues scoring it

RQ, the fields at KY Downs are large and the races are very competitive. I'm playing a few of them this afternoon for a Twin Spires competition, and they are real bears. I would have difficulty hitting a Pick 1, so a Pick 11 would be out of the question. But, thanks for thinking of horseplayers like me.

Know what you mean JB. I started looking at Saturdays card and being it's all turf with a myriad of full fields and also eligibles I'm already scratching my head. Good luck in your contest picking.

Just finished watching today's first race.... much more of a European feel to the course; not just the same oval we are accustomed to seeing.

I would recommend that you watch a race or two today before handicapping Saturday's card - it may give you a better feel for what the races will be like - why certain fractions will be slightly slower because of the uphill run and the like. Also, the far outside was worn out from the last couple of days' racing, but the grass next to the rail was fresh. I think that the temporary rail will be either moved further inward or removed entirely for Saturday to provide a new fresh turf surface.

Should be a fun, if difficult, track to play.

We have plenty of time to make our selections without badgering Don to make his decision right now. Be patient
