Just noticed my mistake above. Midnight's Fantasy ran in Race 2 - not Race 4. So nothing for me selecting Midnight's Fantasy today.

If anyone wants to voice their opinion please do. Our rule has always been a bet should be made as if you were at the tellers window. No teller accepts names, only numbers so my feeling is that NJ Stinks wager in the 4th counts. I am only basing this on the way we have done things in the past. To me names are irrelevant.

Interesting, NJ said that nothing bet on Midnight's Fantasy was a good bet basically, yet I agree with you RQ that if he went to a window and gave a horses name the teller, the teller would say what # please and he'd give the # of the horse to the teller. On the other hand NJ has been playing with us for awhile and he should know by now not to use a horses name for any reason and his wager on race 4 is a good example of why . . . confusion.

CONSIDERATION TO ALL: anyone and all reading this please try not to use any horse names when betting anymore, everyone please . . . whether you like the name, or think it's cute or it's the same name reminds you of you first husband or uncle Bill, or it's the great grandson of your favorite sire/dam. Names don't matter in a wager. If you must let all of us know why you licked a horse that matches any or all and more of the reasons above (if you must), make a separate post and call it "My Names for the Day". That way we can either ignore it or read it if we a so inclined. Follow our rules please and make your wagers just like you would do at a teller's window at the track. THANK YOU!:

Even though he did not want to bet on the 4 in race 4, that was his bet by the # and therefore playing like our rules state, his bet on the 4 in race 4 is to be accepted. And the 4 horse paid 13.60 to win. I mean, it's not real money but . . .

What the hey it was St Paddy's Day, BTW is NJ and Irishman anyway. That's almost a limerick don't ya say.

And now I'll get off of my Irish moss green soap box.

I bet you have!!! Only one typo or funky word in all that narration? That's excellent for me. Glad you caught it.

A few points to make:

1. I name the horse for one reason - it makes it easy for fellow players to know if my bet is a winner or not. (I only listed the horse's name if that bet required a particular horse to do something to win the bet.) I look at other players' picks and except for a couple other players, I have to check numbers instead of knowing immediately if the horse won or not. I don't care one way or the other about it so no more horse names will be listed by me.

2. I actually bet the #4 in the second race yesterday. I didn't cash!

3. A shame the #4 won the 4th race yesterday.

NJ Stinks point #3....it couldn't happen any other way. I don't mind horses names. Most of the time I can see NJS's picks and pick out the Euro's. When I look at the results I can sometimes tell if Ruffian hit a bomb. Bottom line is we have a rule to go by numbers and not names. It has to be one or the other if you list both. My biggest payout for real was a Sunday at PARX when I punched a ticket with the wrong numbers. Did I cash it even though it was not what I wanted? You betcha!

OK .......You "Baited" me into this discussion......so here I am

Here is my reasoning for using HORSE NAMES

We only play for fun ~ not for real money $$$
We are NOT A TRACK ~ We are an online contest

By including the Horse Names
A player gets the horse they real Wanted!

Plus, I enjoy seeing the names of the horses other people play

Just because something has been done a certain way for a while...
It isn't written in stone that NEW ideas cannot be considered

Flexibility, Open Mindedness & Change can Often be refreshing

Ruffian . . . rules please since this is on the hot burner. But we are loving here, so you proceed as you feel best. You may do names on your forum but . . . No biggies.

Other than that, do you propose after years and years and years we change the rules, let me know in a PM and how you would propose it and we'll put to a vote. We have changed them before but by consensus for sure. No being a dictator, just wanting to know where you are going with this.

Thank you. Check My typos too, I have to get back to the NCCA tournament, and Clemson's dominating win over those other Tigers.

It's all about the numbers. RQ is right, when one goes to the window one gives a number not a name. Stick with the number given. KISS
