We made the final 2000!

PLAYERS STILL IN: 1990
PLAYERS OUT: 5220 TOTAL PLAYERS: 7210

The equity (per player) has soared from an initial 41 cents to a whopping $1.50!

What is funny is that there were some pretty easy winners over the 1st 2 days....2 for Baffert and atleast a couple of others.....the object of the game is to pick winners, not prices at this point.

FWIW, I think taking a shot against a very heavy fav is a reasonable strategy in a contest like this. (As bigrun knows, there is no such thing as a lock!)

If the goal is to make the best use of one's time, then maybe it's better to take a shot early than wait two weeks for the number of serious players to dwindle. If you can eliminate 3/4 of the competition right away, then that might justify putting in some more time on the contest. If you avoid an early heavy fav loser, you could even reasonably play the most likely show horse the rest of the way, reasoning that most of your competitors are NOT choosing the most likely horses. (the ones choosing the most likely horse are gone!)

That was really well stated.

The good thing is there's always another one of these contests coming up so might as well try different strategies and you're right... trying to get a few price horses early on does make sense.

Personally I was just sick of ignoring the ones i like in favor of who looks good on paper and then being disappointed and kicking myself.
