That's very very cool. Lucky you.

Thought his connections were from New South W.... never mind I don't know how the awards work.

Lovely horse.

Lovely horse.
They are from New South, but because he won a couple of big races over in WA he was nominated and he won it.

So the owners travelled over there instead of seeing him race in Sydney.

Horse Of The Year Finalists Announced

Tuesday, 17 August 2010:
The finalists for the 2010 Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards have been released with champion trainer Bart Cummings a name prominent in most categories.

Cummings features as the trainer of four individual finalists in Dariana, Faint Perfume, So You Think and the ill-fated Viewed.

Dariana and Faint Perfume are vying for the title of Champion 3YO Filly, Viewed features amongst the finalists for the Champion Stayer Award and So You Think is a finalist in both the Champion 3YO Colt /Gelding and Champion Middle Distance Performer categories.

Three other horses have been named as finalists in multiple categories. They are Melito (Champion 3YO Filly and Champion Sprinter), Typhoon Tracy (Champion Sprinter and Champion Middle Distance Performer) and Starspangledbanner.

Starspangledbanner features as a finalist in three categories of Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding, Champion Sprinter and Champion Australian-bred International for his deeds in the UK under the training of Aidan O'Brien.

Leading Sydney trainers Chris Waller, Gai Waterhouse and Peter Snowden also have multiple finalists.

Waller has three individual finalists, whilst Waterhouse and Snowden have two each.

The Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards are voted on by Australia's senior racing administrators from all principal racing authorities and metropolitan racing clubs and members of the Australian Racing Writers Association.

Following the collation of votes based on performances in the 2009-10 racing season the category finalists are:

Champion 2YO: Crystal Lily ; Military Rose ; Pressday ; Skilled ; Star Witness

Champion 3YO Filly: Dariana ; Faint Perfume ; Melito ; More Joyous

Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding: Denman ; Monaco Consul ; Shoot Out ; So You Think ; Starspangledbanner

Champion Sprinter: All Silent ; Hot Danish ; Melito ; Starspangledbanner ; Typhoon Tracy

Champion Middle Distance Performer: Metal Bender ; Rangirangdoo ; So You Think ; Theseo ; Typhoon Tracy

Champion Stayer: Jessicabeel ; Littorio ; Shocking ; Viewed ; Zipping

Champion Australian-Bred International: Musir ; Rocket Man ; Sacred Kingdom ; Starspangledbanner

The Champion Australian-bred International of the Year is based on performances by Australian-bred horses which are trained by a trainer licensed outside of Australia.

Starspangledbanner has been judged on his Australian performances only for the Australian categories while his UK performances count exclusively towards the title of Champion Australian-bred International.

The winners will be unveiled at the Australian Racehorse of the Year and Hall Of Fame Awards ceremony at Melbourne's Crown Palladium on September 5.
