A rare burst of sanity in this game--so I guess it is possible.

Andrew Beyer in the main article on DRF right now.
I read the article. It's interesting, but his take on the this crop is not surprising. He doesn't take into account the trips some horses had. He didn't pick the winner, his pick got second, so the crop sucks! His rhetoric is really getting old.

Isn't he probably basing his opinion on the crop's Beyer Figures throughout the winter and spring?

He was probably holding out passing judgment until Bodemeister got a chance to separate himself from the rest of the group.

That's how I took Beyer's comments. With the exception of Bodemeister it seems like a very low total of 100 Beyers even compaired to recent crops.

Five horses with 100+ Beyers at a mile plus as 3YO's coming into the Derby: Bodemeister (x3), Creative Cause, I'll Have Another, Daddy Nose Best, and El Padrino. That's better than the 2011 Derby preps at least.

Good point. His 101 was from the Derby.

There are parallels between this crop and the Big Brown crop, with Bode being Big Brown and the rest of the crop being dreadful.

I'm not sure I'm ready to believe that entirely just yet though.

That's pretty much the way I feel. When it's all over, Beyer may be right, but leading up to the Derby I didn't hear anyone say this was a weak crop. The Derby, albeit the biggest 3 year old race of the year is only one race of many more good ones to come.

If I'll Have Another runs a competitive 2nd or 3rd to Bode in the Preakness (yeah... I'm already giving Bode the Preakness), I think this crop has some depth to it. Creative Cause if not so wide and close up could have something to say in the Preakness. I think this crop has some depth to it. But Bode is a freak.

I’ll Have Another, Bodemeister (second), Dullahan (third), Went the Day Well (fouth), and Creative Cause (fifth) qualified for automatic Preakness starts by earning a check in the Derby. Hansen and Liaison round out the top seven. In the second tier of the Preakness qualifying system, which is based on open-stakes earnings, Isn't He Clever, Optimizer, Hierro, and Teeth of the Dog are currently sitting eighth through 11th. In the third tier, which is based on total earnings, Pretension, Tiger Walk, and Paynter round out the 14 available spots as of Tuesday. Zetterholm, Cozzetti, Guyana Star Dweej and Brimstone Island (in order listed) are on the also-eligible list in which two spots will be available at entry time.

Im still struggling with whether or not the guy is serious or not. I feel bad for the guy if he honestly thinks that the Derby has shown thatTrinniberg can hang with Bodemeister. One can sustain and one wilts.

Anyone can write a story for Bleacher Report, so it's not like this is a professional journalist. . . Just an idiot.

I know that things can change on a whim, but is Trinniberg even under consideration for the Preakness at this point?

I thought I read he was being pointed for the Woody Stephens. (Or is it the Riva Ridge?)
