Default A grand day for Godolphin!

Echo of Light, Council Member and Astronomia won today!

ECHO OF LIGHT SHINES AT DEAUVILLE
15 August 2007

Frankie Dettori rode a perfectly judged race aboard Echo Of Light to narrowly win the Group Three Prix Gauntot-Biron Beachcomber Hotels Royal Palm 5* Luxe at Deauville, France.

Godolphin's retained rider jumped his mount smartly from the stalls and the colt showed good pace from his wide draw to take an early lead in the 10-furlong contest.

Echo Of Light raced enthusiastically on the front end and was two lengths clear of his field turning for home.

The five-year-old son of Dubai Millennium was asked to quicken approaching the final quarter mile and responded by extending his lead.

Despite wandering around slightly inside the distance, Echo Of Light maintained his effort to the line under a strong Dettori drive and repelled the late flourish of Atlantic Air, who came home a short-head second, with Kocab a head further back in third.

Winning trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "He won the race and we are happy with the result. It showed me that the horse has plenty of speed and maybe he is more of a miler really.

"He was brave enough to win the race. He tried very hard and Frankie gave him a good ride. There are no plans for him at this moment."

Echo Of Light, who takes his personal Group race tally to four, won in a time of 2m 05.40s and is Godolphin's first winner of the Deauville Group Three contest.

Sounds like he might have got a bit scared in the closing stages though, the runner up cut him down a lot..... he has to be ridden like that though, otherwise he does get scared.

Remember this........

I wonder what was going through his head that day.

He's one of my favourites though

I'm pretty sure you can guess which race it was....... the one where he thought he'd go the wrong way for apparently no reason

I remember Kerrin saying he couldn't do anything because the horse was hell bent on going that way, even though it was the wrong way

You need to get your computer sorted so you can see these, i'm not sure why it is doing that.

OH!!!

I didn't realize Palace Episode won too!!!

Big day for Godolphin
David Grening
(DRF)...

Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin Racing won with all three of its starters on Wednesday's Saratoga card. All three had a different rider.

In the first race, Astronomia ($16) won a $69,000 allowance race with John Velazquez in the irons. In the third, Council Member ($5.50) won a $78,000 allowance race under Ramon Dominguez. In the sixth, Palace Episode ($15.20) won a $72,000 allowance race with Jean-Luc Samyn up.

Rick Mettee, who oversees Godolphin's 15-horse stable here, said winning three races on a day at Saratoga means a bit more than doing it elsewhere.

"It does," he said. "We haven't had that big horse yet this meet, with Discreet Cat still not back. With a 15-horse barn to win three in Saratoga in three allowance races like that, and with the trips they all pulled, it is special, yes."

Godolphin was also successful overseas on Wednesday, as Echo of Light, who finished last in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile, won the Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville.

wasn't i just reading some 'facts' on here last week about how these guys didn't know anything about training horses and that their horses just break down?

they sure made a quick rebound.

Indeed you were, and i was referring about the guys over here.

I respect Mettee. He gets told which horses are coming over for him to train, he doesn't get to decide and he gets the job done.

I'm happy for Palace Episode, he was another horse i liked when he was trained by Kevin Ryan and then he seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.

Did they all win on the turf??

Going back to Echo Of Light........ after he did what he did at Windsor i remember a bookmaking firm (skybet, i think) made an advert from that clip when he went the wrong way. There was a voice over commentary with some irish guy saying "well...... what if he's right and everyone else is wrong" So funny!

It's a reeally nice field and he could very well need one back.

I'm thinking maggie wins and PI shows how goooooood he is.

The Celebration Mile though? That belongs to Caradak.

I think Maggie's run all depends how much rain we get overnight. Her camp will be praying for no more rain, as she really likes fast ground.

Per Incanto is an interesting horse without a doubt, but (although i don't know much about the Italian form) it looks like he could be a much better sprinter than a seven furlong horse.

I think Red Evie will bounce back tomorrow, she will be least inconvenienced by whatever happens with the weather.
