After several weeks of swinging for the seats I'm going to just try to slap one to the opposite field. Too many torn up tickets.

Race 11
$38 Exacta ... 6/2
$30 Exacta ... 2/6
$17 Exacta ... 6/3
$15 Exacta ... 2/3

Success to all and thanks to Real Quiet

Muddy track. We're likely all going to need a lot of luck.

Congrats to the ROI players who were astute enough to pick Letruska in the Apple Blossom. While SS wasn't much of a factor, I felt that Monomoy ran her race, was game in defeat and was simply beaten by a horse who was better on that particular day. She is still a champion.

All in all the race was well worth watching.

Win or lose you have to appreciate a good race.

It was an awesome race. Latruska was headed by MM maybe a furlong from the wire and dug in and came back for the win. Should end up one of the best races of the year.

Frankly, it was kind of a risky wager (like it's my real $$) but I had to do it for our very good friend Eduardo Tarrazas who Patty and I met on the trip to Kentucky back around 2000. At that time he was a stallion manager for Taylor Made Farms. In talking, we found we had much in common and he gave us a VIP tour of Taylor Made. He left Taylor Made and has developed his own very successful business the past several years (see link below) and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy in the equine business. He is very special.

Latruska was one of his horses and he had been building her all week on FB prior to the race, so what else could I do but land on the fairly strong mild long shot that is attached to Eduardo. Patty and I need to get back and visit his farm. I'm sure he'll welcome us with open arms and we'll get a very big thoroughbred fix out of it.

So I'm thinking I have the ROI contest win in the bag and look at Plenilune's wagers seeing that she pulled a Ruffian-Roamin zinger on me for a huge payoff. Thanks a lot Plen.

Very happy for Eduardo who is still walking on could nine I'm sure and for the all the Latruska team.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that you can make a nice score in just about any race. I passed on the Apple Blossom because it looked too chalky and then passed on the last race because it looked impossible and neither analysis by me turned out to be true. Kudos to those that chose well. Even though I was pretty much a non-participant as far as scoring goes, it was still fun to watch.

I hope we haven't seen the last of Swiss Skydiver and she returns to her old form.
