Default Dave Johnson...

As I sit here watching race after race on youtube and listen to his calls and the hair stands up on my neck...i wonder...I am sure this is a post on this, and I know he has a weekly show on sirius/xm, but is he calling any races anymore? If no, when did he retire?

I know he used to call at the Meadowlands on a limited basis during their short fall meet. I am not sure if he still does it. But he made sure to give you "And down the stretch the come" almost every race. Even if they were 10k claimers 100 yards from the wire.

Early candidate for post of the year?

Johnson is a tard. I have some not so fond memories of him IMing me way back in the day on AOL, and all he could ever talk about was his stock picks.

He called the West Virginia Breeders Classic or whatever it's called out at Charles Town for a few years there. I believe he's friend with Sam Hough or some other owner that is big in the WV-breds.

I love when a horse sticks it's nose in front and he yells out his "And so and so TAKES command!"

.........no doubt, he was horrible........"down the stretch they come " was usually said with 100 yards to go.

Brutal comments, I wasn't saying he was the best caller ever, just enjoyed a few of his calls, he was enthusiatic to say the least. Some of the callers out there are kinda boring to listen to.

Everyone has their own taste, but in my opinion, Dave Johnson is one of the greatest race callers of all time!

Agreed. Before embellishing the call for the networks became in vogue, he was the man. His call in Manila's Arlington Million is priceless.

I've also met him several times and he's been nothing but a gentleman. So to each his own.

I agree. Do you know if Letterman is still calling races anywhere?

dave johnson was ok, until he became a caricature of himself. i remember watching a race when there was tons of action going on...but he stopped himself describing it all just to squeeze in the ubiquitous 'and down the stretch...'. sigh

the race call would have been more exciting had he stuck with calling the action. we're there to see the horses, not listen to the caller.
