MONK WINS!

..... at 25 / 1??? Am I reading that right?

What a good boy!

edit - Sporting Life...

MONK LANDS GOLDEN PRIZE

By Martin Kelly, PA Sport

Monkerhostin sprang a 25-1 surprise for trainer Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown.

Leading at the final fence, the 11-year-old galloped on resolutely up the hill to beat Royal Auclair (14-1), trained by Paul Nicholls.

Royal Auclair, runner-up in 2004, finished one place ahead of his stablemate Hoo La Baloo (9-1), who narrowly edged last week's Scottish National hero Iris De Balme, the 9-2 favourite, for third.

After piling in last time, I didn't have a penny on him today....... typical. I wasn't sure how he would cope with the stiff mile at Sandown. Was he impressive? I have been out most of the day, so missed the majority of the racing.

that happens to me way too often as well, Tranquil Sea being one horse this week..

regarding MC, Hughes was only really hands and heels on him and it looked like a mile suited which gives him plenty of options this year.

That's good to hear, he looked like he was going to be a proper 7furlong specialist, and they must be the most frustrating sort of horses you can have in Europe. No matter how good they might be, they will never make huge amounts of money. Tariq springs to mind, also. Dutch Art was probably also a 7f specialist.

I managed to have an okay day on the punting front, mainly down to Bustan in the first.

PLENTY OF MERIT IN VOY POR

By Keith Hamer, PA Sport

Voy Por Ustedes has been crowned winner of the 2008-2009 Order of Merit, scooping the £200,000 first prize.

The eight-year-old, owned by Sir Robert Ogden and trained by Alan King, clinched the series with victory in two of the races - Ascot's Commercial First Chase and the John Smith's Melling Chase at Aintree. He also finished second in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.

Third last season, he ended this campaign on 76 points with dual Champion Chase winner Master Minded (60) second and Snoopy Loopy (58) third.

The cash will be divided between Voy Por Ustedes' connections as well as 20% going to a charity of the owner's choice.

Ogden has nominated two charities close to his heart, the National Autistic Society and Macmillan Cancer Support.

His racing manager Barry Simpson said: "Sir Robert Ogden is absolutely thrilled about winning this season's Order of Merit.

"The introduction of the charity element is great idea and obviously, Sir Robert is delighted about being able to give £20,000 to both the Robert Ogden School in Rotherham and the Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre.

"Voy Por Ustedes has been phenomenal to watch this season and it is thanks to a brilliant team at Alan King's yard for all their hard work this season. That is what is great about the Order of Merit, it recognises everyone involved with the horses."
